Kitcaboodle, welcome to the thread. It sounds like you will fit in here just fine :-)

Well - you certainly sound very "handy" and resourceful:T
  • Thanks everyone! :)

The baby forums I post on are American and again, there everyone seems to buy stuff from new and I feel as if they view me as being ever so slightly mad when I make stuff myself or buy it second hand! So, it will be good to have somewhere I can share my exploits with where people will understand! :)

Darn, I meant to put a load of dried beans on to soak last night and forgot! Oh well, if I start soaking them now they should be OK to cook with this evening. Going to make a bean & lentil soupy/stew thing with some passata, onions, pasta & lots of herbs and spices!

Welcome kitcaboodle - Great 1st post, lots of great things that you do. I dont have kids I'm afraid but on my last visit to the car boot I was surprised at how many lovely new looking baby clothes there were.

It looks to be a lovely week this week weather wise. The tomatoes are really ripening now and courgettes still providing. My runners have slowed up now though.

    Have a good day all.
Loved our trip to the West Coast USA. Death Valley is the place to go!
  • Kitcaboodle- welcome. I don't post much here but I check it out every day to see what everyone is up to.
I bought a pine mirror and pine curtain pole at the boot sale yesterday for £2.50 so I am pleased with myself. There is always loads of baby stuff at our local boot sale and some of it is really cheap and hardly used at all.
When our DD was born 16 years ago boot sales were just starting up in our area and I remember my mum being shocked that I bought some stuff from it for the baby. These days she is down there every weekend seeing what bargains she can find!
My OH went to the boot sale before me and bought me a rennie macintosh leaded mirror for £8 as he knew that I had been wanting one but didn't want to pay the £50 for a new one. :)
Also very happy as I can now see the bottom of my washing basket for the first time in weeks. Like a few others I love watching my washing blow on the line. Unfortuntely have to go to work now.

I had a very OS baby back in the 1960's she had everything home made, in those days babies wore nightlies, except her nappies which were terries, I even knitted her vests. My then sister in law had a baby a few months after me and all my daughters outgrown clothes were handed on to her.

The pram was second hand an Osnath coach built, it did for her and my youngest son and was then handed on again to a friend who needed one. We walked everywhere in those days, the pram had a void in the base, great for packing your shopping!!
    Was 13st 8 lbs,Now 12st 11 Lost 10 1/4lbs since I started on my diet.

My local authority has compost bins on offer so I've just ordered 2 more. When I placed the order they are buy one get one half price, so quite a bargain

I'm getting pretty much nothing done in the way of housework today and am ignoring the shirts hanging in the dining room where I'm sitting whilst I try to focus on preparing for my interview on Wednesday, the extra money from this job would make such a difference and it's a much better place to work generally than where I am but ARGH it's so hard trying to prepare and I'm just not confident as the competition for jobs is so tough at the moment, especially with the cuts as there are a few hundred people with similar skills and experience to me who were all made redundant recently. I suppose at least if I don't get it I do have a job, it just doesn't pay as well as I'd like it to and the management are dreadful.

Hi Kittcaboodle, making your wedding dress is very impressive.
I can't understand why people spend so much on babies, they are too tiny to know what is new and what is second hand or what is designer etc.

Kitcaboodle. Welcome. I'm sure you'll feel amongst friends on here. Sounds as if you're a natural OSer.
Lambanana - Finger's crossed for your job interview on Wednesday. It's difficult to concentrate on other things when something's big coming up so hope you managed to get a little pleasure from your Bank Holiday.

Thanks Primrose not going to work today has been lovely even if it has been mostly spent prepping for the interview. It's still better than being at my awful job!

I hope everyone has had a lovely Bank Holiday!
