Hello & Welcome all newcomers

jediteacher Really sorry to hear about your car accident hun and the resulting difficulties it's causing you. Life can be such a b!tch at times! :grouphug:

narabanekeater Hope your dog perks up later today

thriftmonster Your larder sounds wonderful :)
:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: Just try making an ordinary lemon sponge then make the sauce as the recipe it works for me when I make Magic Chocolate pudding x
Really? Mind you, I've not got a lemon sponge recipe and I've made a sponge cake in years

Hippee thanks so much hun I have cups and all the ingredients will have an experiment tomorrow :D

    Oh....you were serious then :D
I wasn't quite sure how much the mixture would make, so I made mine in the bottom of a medium size pyrex casserole dish to allow for pouring ½pint of water on top of the pudding, so maybe it was the wrong type of cooking vessel? Although I make my Self Saucing Chocolate Pudding in the same thing, but that has higher quantities of ingredients. It also has an egg and baking powder in it.

What are your thoughts on that? The original recipe for the tragic lemon pudding has neither egg nor baking powder, so how can it make a sponge?
Hippee - sorry your pudding didn't work - I have a cup measuring set of.........cups? so I'll attempt pudding later - I love lemony things!

Hi sammy_kaye :) Good luck with the pudding! I'll be interested to see how yours and D&DDs turn out.

Someone said doesn't one cup = 8oz, but from what I can gather, no. It seems to depend on what it is you're measuring. For example, a cup of flour doesn't weigh the same as a cup of sugar...at least, I think that's what the website said that I looked at yesterday

I should have just steered clear really. I've spent all my adult life avoiding cup measured recipes, and don't know why I chose yesterday to change my mind, as it was a disaster even using measuring cups. Never mind - it was a learning curve ;)

I will still be interested to see how everyone elses turn out :)

  • hello peeps, hope you are all well.
Jediteacher, hope your back gets better soon. If you think it might be whiplash you will need to see gp so that it is on record just in case you make a claim.
D&DD the nail thing: surgery can affect the circulation and can damage some nails, or could be trauma from, for example, the bedclothes. Either way, if the nail is loose cut it off, if not just continue covering with tape so that they don't catch in the bedclothes and get ripped off!!! Cannot be bothered with orthotics down here as people are tight with their money and won't pay. I tell them to see gp and get referred within the nhs to a podiatrist as the orthotics will be free!
Weather is overcast but not raining at the mo.

  • ps D&DD: nails should grow back!!!
  • I've had a miserable start to today as when I popped out earlier to do some mystery shopping a little old man who was not paying any attention to the road smashed into the back of me! All this after I've just forked out £1000 to get the car fixed. Luckily my hubby is home today and my little girl was with him and not in the car!
I've had to take my back medication as I've jarred it but I'm not suppose to be taking it as we're trying to conceive and the specialist at the recurrent miscarriage surgery told me not to take it anymore. However, I really need to take it as I don't want my back to get worse. So much for any good karma coming my way.

how are you feeling? poor you xx

My DS1 doesnt go back to school till 6th September and Ds2 till oct 6th when he start pre school. Holidays are too long they should have longer at whit week and xmas and cut summer holidays down.

Waggles you are an absolute star thankyou very much :D:D He did have a bit of a rough time after surgery so that may explain it.I've trimmed them as much as I dare and will keep tape on until they grow up a bit more.

    Jedi hope you're ok!

Crickett hows about sending Mum a little 'care package' ;) Nice mag/book,comfy slippers (your feet always swell when spending time next to a hospital bed!)and some sweeties.
When Dad is due home make sure he has a full OT/physio assessment before he leaves so they are aware of any equipment he may need at home. Our local council have an emergency OT visit on discharge for elderly or vulnerable people, might be on mums council website?

    Hippee found this! http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=24291119&postcount=617
wonder if it was the recipe that was wrong? I know my WI book misprinted one I used a couple of weeks back.

You know, D&DD, that is a brilliant idea! Why didn't I think of that! :T I might also send Dad a little care package as well, if I can think of something he might like. He's picky in the extreme.

Luckily, they live in a sheltered accomodation place, and they have a "tame" OT anyway. :D But I will remind Mum to ask about it!

Jediteacher - hugs to you - hope the back settles down. The only time someone drove into me (in a queue) I was in tears after - it's such a shock.

Thanks to everyone for their best wishes for the larder. The wall and window went in today - it's so much lighter as the old cupboard larder had no natural light. It's west facing which I think isn,t ideal for a larder (aren't they supposed to be north facing?) but I'm so excited.

But I am getting past the builder stage. We've had the house for 12 years now and it was structurally unsound at the front when we moved in (lived at the back for 3 months) and we lived in a building site for months at end over the years - but because we are getting to the end - I'd forgotten how carpy this building stuff is. I just want to clean and tidy:eek: (which is not normal for me - I'd rather read).

I think the care package for Papa Crickett sounds good - I have done them for my MIL and aunt recently - with a puzzle book, novel, face wipes, sweets, cologne stick. - Men might be a bit harder!!! Although for my MIL I got her some of those tubs of peaches and fruit in juice that they do for packed lunches - made the hospital meals a bit healthier and they don't need a fridge.

  • Mine too, I remember my mother pegging it out, all towels would be hung together, all shirts together, all underwear, it looked lovely. That was in the day of the twin tub.

I remember my mums twintub! she once left the hose running the water in while she went to answer the phone, and me being a nosy little runt had to pick it up to see if water was coming out of the end :rotfl: inevitably i was shocked to see water, and drowned the kitchen! my mum always used dolly pegs too ...
I used terry nappies with my twins (now aged 9!) and loved washing them every day and pegging them out on the line!!

have a good weekend everyone

My dog and one of the cats have come down with colds today too, gave them drop of calpol earlier and seems to have helped. Got both snuggled in living room with me tonight.

Never thought about calpol for dogs and cats. If it's safe it's a lot cheaper than medicine from the vets. Perhaps you should post on the pets forum and save some people money.
