Will have to go and get one of those boxes of soap powder from Morrisons tomorrow. Run out of bread as well. Trouble is already been shopping this week and apart from forgetting to get bread, I know that by going to save on soap powder I am going to find lots of 'bargains'Hippee would love the recipe for that one
love the name!
I'm sure everyone else does too, but are too shy to ask :rotfl:
Tragic Lemon Pudding
1 Cup Self Raising Flour
½ Cup Caster Sugar
1 Tsp Grated Lemon Rind
2 Tbs Butter, melted
½ Tsp Vanilla Extract
½ Cup Milk
1/3 Cup Caster Sugar
1 Tsp Grated Lemon Rind
1 Cup Boiling Water
½ Cup Lemon Juice
Preheat oven to 180C
Sift the flour and a pinch of salt together, then add sugar and grated lemon rind and mix well.
Stir in melted butter, vanilla and milk and pour into a deep well greased ovenproof dish
Sprinkle top with sugar and lemon rind
Mix boiling water and lemon juice together and pour carefully over the mixture in the dish
Bake for 30-40 minutes
Stand for 5-10 minutes
I didn't think that sounded right, as there was nothing in it to make it rise, so I added an egg, but I still ended up with an inch thick suety consistency type brick - great sauce though!Aug11 £193.29/£240

I am also a lurker and have finally finished reading this thread!!!!! I'm female, 34, self-employed as a podiatrist and am also finding it difficult in this economic climate.
Have an allotment, although this year it has been rubbish due to the weather, so not much cheap/free food from there. I also enjoy baking and jam making but not very good at normal cooking, so will be pinching any recipes from here!!!
Am currently trying to lose weight, up to 20lbs now, after having for the last year post-viral fatigue. Can totally relate to others on here that have been ill cos I had no choice but to work through it as have a large mortgage and an ancient moggy to feed!!!
Glad to see this thread is very friendly so will continue reading and posting if I have anything interesting to share!!!!
Hope you are all as well as can be and good luck to all those that are applying etc for jobs!!!

hello waggles
ooh you shouldn't have told me you do feet I have a question for you already!
Middlyson has a prob with both his big toes...*look away now girls if you're squeamish!*
Both nails somehow have 'come away' right near the quick so the top halves are hanging off :eek:I'm currently keeping them wrapped for him as he's just had spinal surgery and is in bed about 23 hours a day!
Can't get him to the surgery to get the docs to have a look any suggestion
a) what has caused this
b) what can I do to help
Have you ever considered branching out into orthotics?? Wherever we go they never seem to have enough orthotists(?)
Hippee thanks so much hun I have cups and all the ingredients will have an experiment tomorrow0 -
My favourite job is pegging out washing. Love it.
L
Mine too, I remember my mother pegging it out, all towels would be hung together, all shirts together, all underwear, it looked lovely. That was in the day of the twin tub.
Schools go back end of next week and the rest the following week here in Manchester
Hi wagglessemells
On the recipe is 1 cup equal to 8oz?
I agree about other sections on here with 'rude & nasty' people.
Love it here though.
Have a good FridayLoved our trip to the West Coast USA. Death Valley is the place to go!0 -
Good Morning everyone.
I`m happy to say it`s finally stopped raining and the sun is shining:j Felt low yesterday think it was because it rained for hours. A bit of sunshine always makes things seem better.
Ventured out into the garden and still have 2 washing lines full of wet towels. Left them out when I thought it was `only a shower` - how wrong was I. The upside of this is when they finally dry they will be lovely and soft and smell lovely.:)
Good luck to everyone who`s job hunting - it`s so difficult at the moment.
Everyone with babies and young children - don`t worry about the housework. Enjoy your children. Housework will still be there when they have grown up. I worked full time when my children were small (still do) and know how hard it is to keep all the balls juggling.
Got to go now. Time for work. I work from home so just have to log onto my work computer.
Have a good day everyone.0 -
welcome waggles! I would say the OS board is probably the friendliest one Ive come across -although the girls on the pregnancy club thread in families and relationships are a good bunch of girls too.
Hippee - sorry your pudding didn't work - I have a cup measuring set of.........cups? so I'll attempt pudding later - I love lemony things!
Well had a peaceful day - am officially skint so no gallivanting for us until tuesday/wednesday when Im paid and I'll be off to pay bills. Really must look through fridge/freezer cupboards and see what meals I can concoct from whats left over. There could be some interesting creations in there though!
Holly only took 3 ounces again last night in total so think she has just decided she is cutting her own night feeds down which is fine by me - she has gotten up and guzzled 4.5 ounces too.
Weather here is ok this morning - well its not windy or raining which is nice but its still chilly. get the feeling I need to get a shift on with winter preparations so will be looking online today for rugs etc to tick things off my preparing for winter thread list. Think I need to add some SAD bulbs to our list too.
Have had the heating on timed two nights in a row now. and although babe seemed ok in her sleepsuit her little hands were freezing so think I will put scratch mittens on her for bed tonight to keep her hands warm - have only just managed to get her to have a blanket on and thats only if she is really asleep although I do have a fleece blanket that has a zip and poppers on that you fold round baby and it makes a suit for them - handy for buggy but wonder if she'd be too hot sleeping in it.I can leave the arm holes (poopers) open so she'd have like a fleecy sheet under her head and shoulders but just zip it up and popper the legs so it would stay on her to waist height and keep her warm without her kicking it off. might try her in it later.
oh and our school go back Friday 3rd September. don't see the point myself but apparently they get a fun day then to meet their new teachers. Ben is asking for packed lunch 3 x a week and dinners x2 so will see what their new menu looks like and might put him in on a Monday and Friday. (Monday he gets home for 4pm on a quick day and has to go out again at 4.45 for football practice)Time to find me again0 -
morning!
just caught up with a few pages and must say how much you lot cheer me up with talk of "tragic lemon puddings" and bits of Galaxy found at the back of the fridge!:rotfl::D thats the good thing about laughter - its free and makes you feel so much better!:T:D
My damson tree of fruit has been taken on freecycle :T they are coming to pick it tomorrow if its ripe enough!
Yesterday I was given a huge bag of runner beans - had some for tea and they were yummy!:T anyone got a recipe for runner bean chutney? my best friend(sadly not with us any more) used to love this but I've never tried it.
Need to do a shopping list for Tesco as we have a voucher for £9 off a £60 spend so I'll be going round again tomorrow with my calculator;)
hope you all have a lovely weekend - I'm off to work soon but have got the weekend off:jDo what you love :happyhear0 -
Morning all. There is sunshine...! Woo hoo! I feel MUCH better today. I think I am solar powered!!
Seasalt - I am currently stitching a centre cloth for my Mum and Dad's table. It has roses and forget-me-not's on it and I am using cross-stitch and embroidery stitches. I am rather enjoying myself with it, but I want to make sure that I finish it as I am Queen of the Great Unfinished Project.
Our shower decided not to work this morning. Which was annoying. However, I told hubby, we did some initial investigations and I ended up having a bath instead. Don't like baths really. However, needs must. Tonight when we get back from work hubby is going to investigate the problem further, I am going to cook the brave DIYer a nice meal (Steak, chips and salad - and I am going to try and make a hollandaise sauce...so that will be just the steak, chips and salad then!
) and then we will have a conference and decide what to do. On the basis that Murphy's Law usually applies to any situation I find myself in, I expect Saturday to be spent trawling around DIY shops either buying a new shower or pricing a new bathroom in its entirety! So bang go my plans for a No Spend Weekend.
However... I am going to use this as a learning experience. If Hubby and I can put in a new bathroom without either a) killing one another or b) getting a divorce, then our plans to do up a house should work out nicely!
Have a good day everyone. I have TONNES of work to do today...but no motivation to do any of it. *Sigh* At least its Friday!!"A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort"Herm Albright 1876-19440
