We dont have cats or dogs due to tenancy restrictions so reptiles are the next thing, also a heck of a lot cheaper to buy and keep. My ds is still trying to find his 'stick insects' (old tank full of twigs, bark and mulch) hehe

My turtles are cumberland turtles, they £2 to buy from a breeder, the aquarium I had since I was 18, the snake was a rescue which means i paid nothing and the vivarium was another from freecycle. Anything else?

    Morning all.

have had a funny night with babe - she usually guzzles 3 ozs no problem in the night but last night she took just 2ozs in total. shes woken up this morning and had another 2 in bed with me at about 6am, and shes had about 2.5ozs since. just doesnt seem a lot for her but midwife said to feed her on demand. she seems happy enough though. she has her 6 week check later so might ask then if she seems off. she is having a few mouthfuls now though.

Last night was the first night I've had to put the heating on too - was bloody freezing here with all the rain and we had flooding just down the road in briton ferry. thankfully although im in the bottom of a valley im still on a slight slope towards a river so i dont flood. ;)

seems murky here but not raining.........yet

I am another one who put out washing, sat down to check emails and didn't realise the weather until it was too late so washing is now wetter than it went out. Its all boyfriends work stuff too so will need to try and dry that asap.

need to go and pay rent today - oh joy! and put £25 in bank to help reduce a £633 overdraft - urgh. sure there is charges to go on that yet. not good. I'm getting £290 from boyfriend so £230 rent, £25 bank and £22 into another bank means I have all of £13 left over for a small top up shop until tuesday and £7 of that will be hollys milk - time to check cupboards and freezer me thinks as still enough things in them but not quite meals if you know what i mean .

note - hes just had another ounce and a smidge but reading back shes had 6.25 ounces in just under 2 hours - does that seem right for a 6 week old baby? considering she was 11lb 7ozs when i weighed her last week?
    Time to find me again

Rnjoy your pets lauren. For the very little they have cost you I'm sure they're giving you an enormous amount of pleasure. I can partly understand why the comment was made as exotic pets do sometimes cost a lot of money, both to acquire and and maintain but I think we also have to balance judgement between knowing the cost of things and the value of them, and sometimes there's a very wide disparity between the two.

Another lurker here, but I just wanted to post in defence of lauren_1. We have a Crested Gecko as our family pet as my DH is allergic to fur and feathers, and she costs very little to keep. A lot less than a dog or cat would as she needs no immunisations and eats very little.
Everyone, regardless of their income, is entitled to some pleasures in their life and if Lauren_1's pets provide that for her then no one should judge that as wrong.

Absolutely. Life is hard enough and you'd think people would realise that we're all in the same boat and all just trying to do out best. We get enough negativity and talking-down-to by TPTB so we dont need it from each other!

Sounds like very tight budget sammy hope you ok.
Depressing when money goes so quickly.
I think if shes not fed much in night maybe shes just hungry and not to worry.
I breastfed so not sure on oz but formula boxes give guidelines on oz according to age.
newborns tend to sleep in day and feed like demons in evening until they get pattern sorted.
