Evening everybody...not sure where my day went, went to get restraint/seat belt thingy for Kerry for her trip to Cork next week, then met cousin whose father had to have pace-maker fitted urgently last week (79), when he was transferred back to local hospital for monitoring for a week he kicked up such a fuss that they had to have 2 security guards restrain him until some of the family arrived and sorted him out, insisted on going home, is carrying on as normal and driving them all nuts....will not go see him yet as would find it too difficult to keep my mouth shut and not tell him what I think of him!

Picked some windfall apples yesterday evening, stewed them, strained and made small amount of apple jelly this morning...think I added too much sugar as it is very sweet, doesn't seem to have the 'tang' I associate with apple jelly, but then I usually make it from crab apples which are very sour so maybe if I try again I might use less sugar and see how I get on...will be eaten anyway.

Have been getting raspberries and loganberries every day and freezing them for when there is less fresh fruit about...still some currants to pick, to-morrow I hope. Pineapples seem to be very plentiful this year, have been getting them cheaply for months, got 2 for a euro each this morning, hope that they last until the grandchildren come, DGS2 loves pineapple.

Heard a bit of good news yesterday, a Japanese friend of mine had a baby boy, she already has a little girl who is almost 3....both are by IVF, so happy that it has worked well for them as they are a nice young couple....will visit in a week or so, her mother is with her for a month from Japan, she speaks no English but doesn't let that stop her talking so that will be a pleasant outing!

N9eav....what a useful legacy from your uncle..

Donny-gal, thanks for the cauliflower recipe, will try it out on OH, for some reason he is not mad about cauliflower, can't understand it as he eats everything else in the veggie line, might convert him.

How is your back JackieG....still feeling guilty about it as it was after my visit it started acting up!

Csarina...sorry to hear that OH has a problem....could be all the 'windy' vegs, no doubt the doctor will have told him so! Good on you for letting him off to doc alone, mine won't go on his own, claims that he can never hear what doc is saying....

Hester....was that a mis print that your salary is going down by £120 a month? How can they do that? For the same hours??

Big discussion here that the Old Age Pension ( they call it something fancier now) is going to be cut in budget in December....it is currently €230.30 per week and many people claim to be unable to manage on less....there is also a fee for medicine of €.50 being introduced for those with free medicine so can see that there will be lots of rows by various groups between now and December. The country is in a mess, money has to be raised from somewhere, but nobody wants it to be from their section of community, this is the worst I ever remember things so hopefully things will turn around soon.

Hugs to all in need or want, congratulations to all who are celebrating, please come back soon those of you who are MIA, sorry to those I seem to have ignored

    Marie

Where has my 'Thanks' button gone??

Glad to see some familiar names on here - haven't been on here for a couple of years (for all sorts of reasons too boring to mention) Glad to be back and to read all the updates and stories. Have to get back on to grocery challenge and Fly Lady threads as well . . . .

My circs have changed and I plan not to work again if I can manage it. OH and I should be able to manage on one salary and we have no kids. I have taken a small pension from a final salary scheme. I've taken it early on the basis that, the way some things are going, I would rather have some cash now, and make it go further for longer, than a bigger pension some time in the future.

Growing some veg in pots and bags this year so looking forward to potatoes, cabbage, chllies, courgettes and strabwerries! Though not necessairly all at the same time :p
