    ok
downloaded latest software update late last night,

Phone has not worked since, spoken to apple for 2 hours this morning for some reason caught in an endless restore loop and if you look on the apple website there is 9 pages of people with the same problem

To answer your question, wait until after 6pm today and then see if there is a total recall

This is a good example of why I never do any updates until they have been out 72hrs, it lets the update first get tested by those who "just have to have the latest update". For me my rule is never update any ipod or iphone until the jailbreak is out.

Yes agree with the 72 hours bit,

Got home plugged phone into pc to charge and up popped and update of course being tired pressed the button, and that is it,

Had to reset system (PC) removed itunes complete twice so far, but no joy, phone is not being detected by itunes hence just goes through the same loop,

Still waiting for apple to try and offer some type of remedy, so beware!

Try a full factory reset first

  • I got mine a couple of weeks ago after waiting to see what was being said about them on the tech forums.

The only issue AFAICS is the reception drop-out but I've not experienced this so far (although I bought a protective case for the phone so this may be the solution).

I did have an entire day (almost) with it not recieving/sending calls/texts but it turned out I'd accidentally put the phone in Airplane mode.

    Doh!!!

Before I got the iPhone I was still getting by with a 7 year old Nokia so I can't comment on whether it's better then other phones out there really, but I love the speed of internet access and the fact that I can lend it to my sis to do her Facebook thing no matter where we are. Also the gizmo that figures out where you are then sets up a maps for you to get to places is great - I'll never get lost in London again!!

As I have said to many others, I am glad you have a phone you like and if you like it ignore all the others who try to impose their ideas on you, it was your choice you are happy, nothing to do with anyone else, tell them to keep their beaks out, as for the maps app, I want one that keeps me 30 miles clear of any city :D

I had a problem with DD's iPod Touch and the last update. The issue wasn't iTunes (which was up to date), the cable nor the iPod; it was the USB socket. I plugged the cable into a new USB and had the iPod back up and running in 5 minutes.

If you haven't tried using an alternative USB, give it a go.

i do remember reading a thread on some forum, cant remember where though, about the new software in iOS4 causing usb problems and screen proximity sensor problems. that might be the cause of user problems mentioned here by some people. dont know the work arounds though. best to google for workarounds for the problem as you might find the solution in the thread i was mentioning if you come across the thread i stumbled across earlier.
