Are there any mobile pont of sale apps (either available or upcoming) for android or are you stuck with apple for the forseeable future?
My guess is that there will be a range of pos software available to you on android soon.

Apple do nice hardware but going android route is possibly cheaper and would give you the consumer more choice. (though you may get tempted to upgrade more often as the hardware improves so quickly)

If you are unsure about upgrading to an Iphone 4 why not wait 6 months to see what android / apple options are then?

    a quick google revealed

I guess these may not be suitable but anyway Im sure there must be some competition out there for your desired application.

see who ever lives or uses the phone in a weak signal area will face the problem because of signal attenuation. by signal i mean the raw signal strength in dBm and ASU and not the sh1tty bars shown on the phone. surely you wont label reviews from consumer reports and gizmodo and the well known anandtech as HTC fan club members!
I can agree with that, as I have said before here in the Isle of Man there is really no areas that are out of line of sight from a mast and individual cells are smaller so we manage to get what you can call a perfect very high speed 3G, to date nobody here has had the signal problem even when trying. Mind you the phone was still a big letdown ;)
Approach her; adore her. Behold her; worship her. Caress her; indulge her. Kiss her; pleasure her. Kneel to her; lavish her. Assert to her; let her guide you. Obey her as you know how; Surrender is so wonderful! For Caroline my Goddess.

point of sale devices are available on windows mobile, windows for desktops, linux, android, iphone, blackberry.

cross platform web based point of sale options are there as well. just google for more information!

to say iphone is the only option is just ludicruous. i had some blinds put in at home and the lady installing it had point of sale billing and payment and order placement devices and none of them were iphones or even remotely related to that, although i dont know what platform they operated on.

just a brief view of some other options http://www.mobiletopsoft.com/pocket-pc/download-mobile-pos-1-4.html

    http://www.intomobile.com/2009/11/09/charge-anywhere-unveils-mobile-payment-app-for-android/

and loads more seen on the net!

i have seen apps for point of sale reviewed online for android and one does not even need extra devices, a month or so ago during some browsing about android i had read about using the camera on android as a scanner for scanning credit cards and the same app allowed the vendor to take the photo of the buyer as added proof that it was a valid sale etc. dont remember the full details as i just read it in the passing. other devices that were linked to phones by wireless methods were also mentioned in that article but i dont remember the name of that article or website. google and search if interested. or enquire on android forums like xda and phandroid etc. the field of commerce fortunately does not revolve only around apple products and there are other options too. choose what ever suits your requirements best.

Just got mine today, not even opened it and now sent for a return. Im not paying £500 for the same as the 3gs nearly but worse for signal flaw. A mate has problems with his and says it presses all sorts of buttons when your on the phone. Ill wait till the next gen is out or at least when they fix all problems.
    Kind Regards

You could have sold it instead for profit of £100 like the other chap on here.

    ^^^

Not much good if it was a new contract though as opposed to handset only.

  • Had it since launch day and apart from vodafone delivering me a microsim two days late it has been perfect. A real step up from the 3GS and even more so from a 3G. I have not had any of the reception issues, although it's clear I must be lucky in that respect. Not found any other bugs either. Battery life is vastly improved for me and I could never get a full day out of a 3GS. That doesn't seem to get mentioned much by others so maybe it's just my usage pattern. Anyway, if you have a 3GS it's a solid step up, but a lot of money for the refinements. Anything else and I think it's a definite buy.
Someone mentioned the TomTom app and that works really well on the iPhone 4.

Thanks all for all the replys.

I got my iphone 4 this morning and my thoughts are:
Bit of a ball ache transfering apps from one phone to another , but a few hours later all was fine.
    Tom tom works much better.
    Phone overall seems much faster
!!!! in O2 shop tried to charge me double what O2 telesales had quoted me, so watch out!
Grip of death not possible in my house but could be done when elsewhere ,but only when trying to do it, certainly not an issue.
I muted a call with my ear, is that the faulty proximity sensor?

Then later on that day the update came out.
All I can see is slightly less bars and had a good old long phone call and couldnt put them on mute with my ear despite trying (coincidence?)

Overall , very happy and think I made the right decision.

    Thanks again.
On the internet you can be anything you want. It`s strange so many people choose to be rude and stupid.
