Well, a job advert is not a job if you don't get it.

and any well-trained cynic who's registered with employment agencies knows that a job ad doesn't prove the existence of a job...

Of course it's a job! When people say there are no jobs, they mean that there are none to apply for, not that there's plenty but they don't get them!

Thanks mardatha. I have no idea if that was aimed at me or not but I'll take all the praise I can get!

we can't have full employment, so there will always be unemployed people who CAN'T work because there isn't a job for them to do.

wish alot of you would get off your high horses and realise soon you'll be talking about yourselves (because you'll be on benefits!)

Strangely enough there probably was never a time where no jobs needed filling (even in the 30's) the problem is usually, the geography and the skill match.

Also (as I found) if you apply for a job as a cleaner or whatever as a bourgeois person, employers aren't interested because they assume (quite rightly) that you will just beggur off when something better comes along. I applied for all sorts of things: train driver (actually I was offered that one), accounts clerk in a prison in the middle of nowhere (Oberon, NSW), all sorts. When I wasn't working I applied for anything and everything.

The only job I could get that was full time and actually paid a living wage was back in a bank!

Why didn't you take every kids dream job (well after playing for United icon7.gif)?

They sent me a very lovely email:

Dear Gen, [They're an informal bunch over here]
    Re: Suburban Trainee Train Driver
    (Reference Number: xxxxxxxxxx)
Congratulations, I am pleased to advise that you have been recommended for the position of Suburban Trainee Train Driver.

However, at the present time we are unable to offer you an immediate placement into a training course as we are not taking any entrants into our training scheme in 2009.

Basically I passed the interview but the job was withdrawn. The reason was because the NSW Government bought a bunch of trains and rejigged the timetable so needed more drivers, guards etc. The upshot was 3 fewer timetabled trains running on the railroads of Sydney and the surrounding network each day.

I applied for a job with the anti-discrimination people over here. They only employ Australian citizens (seriously they do).

Actually I'd like to thank the people that post on this site for what they did for me when I was at a very low ebb for about a year. When I couldn't get a job flipping burgers or cleaning bogs, lots of posters on here would click the 'thanks' button on the bottom right hand side of my posts. Some days, that was the only boost to my self-esteem I would get and I think it helped me claw my way out of a desperate situation and go back to being a productive member of society.

That might sound pathetic to other posters but quite frankly I don't give a flying fox.
