    He shouldn't have been released.

Compassionate release, where was his compassion for all those that died and their famalies.

We are far too lenient in our country.
The punishment should suit the crime, then you would see a real deterrant and reduction in crime.

Was there not doubt over whether did it or not? sacrificial lamb and all that.

Not according to the jury that convicted him.

it doesn't matter if there was doubt. what is the point of a criminal justice system if some bloke can just ride roughshod over it and release convicted killers because they may die within 3 months (and then live for at least a year).

if he was innocent, he should have appealed. he withdrew his appeal and his chance to clear his name.

don't get me wrong, i am not saying if he did it or not. all i am saying is, there is a justice system and the rule of law has to rule. or else where do we go? politicians jsut releasing killers and rapists because they think they might be innocent (or paid a load of money to them).

If you read a little about the release the catch 22 was that if he withdrew his appeal he could be released, otherwise he could not. Crazy stuff, and a political stitch up between the British government and Libya almost certainly. And it makes a nonsense of the conviction, the families grief, the hunt for justice and the truth. Unfortunately though, for those looking for someone to blame, Magrahi is possibly not the right person.

However, several of the victims families refused to accept compensation due to their belief that Libya was not responsible.

Many believe that Abdelbaset Ali Mohamed al-Megrahi, who was convicted of the murders was a fall guy. If he was responsible for placing the bomb, he was a pawn in a much bigger political game.
Martin Cadman, whose son Bill died in the disaster, told The Conspiracy Files: "The truth has not come out. I think the investigation found out what it was told to find."

just for balance what happens when you Google Magrahi and Guilty
That is a very good point, and no, I didn't bother with that search. And yes I normally Google House Price Crash rather than House Price Rise. You can always find what you are looking for on the Internet of course but I think the 'facts' of this case are out there from fairly reliable sources. It doesn't sound like the usual conspiracy nonsense, leastways not from the Magrahi pov. God only knows what the UK, US and Libyan governments have been up to though.
