Smoking is a disgusting affectation for the weak minded.

I'd recommend a peace pipe to a few posters...

So you would say that other searches implied
    ...
I looked at a number of searches from google and formed an opinion.
This to me would warrant the use of infer rather than imply.
I would say the search results "indicate" or "say" something

You do the inferring, not the searches, so
"I infer from these search results that..."
but if what you infer is not directly stated in those results, do they not imply what you inferred?

Again, how can a website imply something (to communicate an idea or feeling without saying it directly)?
Surely they state something, to which I infer having read numerous websites.
So you would say that other searches implied

ISTL - why don't you just acknowledge that your constant use of 'infer' when you mean 'imply' is incorrect.

I know you don't come here for an english lesson but it does help to know these things.
It could save you looking foolish in your business or private life.

I'm glad you noticed the part where I said I did not come here for English lessons.
You must have missed the sentence above where I acknowledged that English was not my best subject. (Post 153)
However my English is not the best, I acknowledge that.

Certainly in this instance it would seem that my infer is correct.

To imply in this instance would mean the website said something along the lines of "He was sentenced to 30 days but was released after only 19"
It does not categorically state he was released early but implies that he was.
The websites I viewed did not use such wording, simply that he was on a short sentence.

Again, the definition of imply is to "
communicate an idea or feeling without saying it directly "
the website did not do this, so I inferred from my research.

    taken from news-of-the-wold.com

"For the 2 virgins, footballer Mr A and innocent Miss B it was lust at first sight. But after one night they never met again. Nine months later Miss B gave birth to a baby boy"

That implies something, but doesn't say it directly.

Are you sure it doesn't infer something?
