12.5 hrs is classed as full time as (with my course) we had to do a hell of a lot of work at home in our own time. It has to be 12.5 hrs in college, but you will get all your assignment work to do in your own time.9/70lbs to lose0

Perhaps the OP could consider joining a local Territorial Army group as a Medic or joining the local Field Hospital Unit as a combat medical technician if there's one in the country near him. Or a local RAF or Navy reserves as medical support. That way he gets extra pay, a new social outlet and an enhanced CV where he is able to demonstrate to future employers additional relevant skills and experience.
Failing that, if he's not inclined to join the TA (after all, he could end up in a combat zone), then he could look into voluntary work, such as with the St Johns Ambulance, where he would learn advanced 1st aid skills. Again, that puts him in good stead for any future application to a medical or health related employer.
Good advice!
I happened to sign up for the army about two months Ago, I have been put on a two year waiting list
I go to St Johns Ambulance every Tuesday!! It's like your reading my mind lol0 -

Also I would say working a meesley 16 hours a week when you are more than capable of doing more, is similar to 'sitting on your backside'
Not exactly hard work now is it.
Now see I wont make any remarks about how your getting benefits while using other peoples money to pay for your learning (Maybe you use some on my tax money! :rotfl:
But I wont It's not me I think of it as a low move and I'm a much better person then that!

This is why this country is in such a mess. Your wages and outgoings mean you are £4 a week better off than you would be on JSA (if you are entitled to full hb if you werent working!), with none of the 'perks of being on benefits' (ie free prescriptions, cheaper gas/elec/bt line rental/crisis loans etc) unfortunately you arent really entitled to much else as you are young, single and childless.
You also have to worry about getting to work/feeding yourself at work/ clothing yourself for work. Those on JSA have to worry about gettin to the job centre once every 2 weeks, and if god forbid they have to go in on a day they arent meant to they get the money re-imbursed if you had to get a bus or something to get there! Joke!!!!
Unfortunately its not easy to get a job at the moment (I have too been looking for a while!) but keep at it! When I was younger (19) I managed to work around 25 hours a week in the evenings and weekends and I did a full time college course during weekdays so it can be done. Go to your local college see what courses there are, and start doing it, once you do it will open up a whole new world of opportunities for you, good luck
I know man It's really crazy! when I pay like 50% of my money on rent/tax then i run out of money to eat i often feel that I'll be much better off on Jsa, I wouldn't have to get up at seven I could sleep all day , go out drinking every weekend and never have to worry about rent. Sounds good
Do you mind telling us what job you was doing at the time ?0 -

Seeing as you wont leave I'll try to put this a way you can understand
Let's say
Your working 25 hours a week job you pay your bills and are left with next to nothing.......Your child is hungry.. your running out of money to feed him/her!!!!!!!
Work will not give you more hours !!!!!!
Do you
A. Try and get benefits to help feed her/her
B. Let him/her skip meals, Who wants a fat kid anyway ?
c. Let the F88ker die, you can always make more right ?
Now tell me Did you pick A ?
If you did, welcome to my world and as you say we are lazy and don't work right xD
Now tell me did you pick B
If you did, Your a bad mother and your die unloved!
Now tell me did you pick C
If you did, shame on you!

pundless, have you tried local nursing homes for work as they're usually crying out for staff.
Joining your local freecycle group as suggested would be good as you may be able to get the things that you need for your place, also a bike so that you won't have to walk to work.
Do you have a connexions adviser?

The old style board on here has some brilliant advice on budgeting & great menu plans etc, http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.php?f=33
it may be worth a look & asking for help if you need it to cut your food expenditure.

While you have council housing do try & hang on to it as you do at least have security of tenure.
Can people please not knock this lad, he is working & is trying. I assume he hasn't had it particularly easy recently, maybe ever if his Mother has always been unwell. At 19 to lose your Mother is hard I should imagine, through suicide is unimaginable.
He came on asking for advice to help him with his situation.
edit to add, pundless, you aren't going to make friends & impress people with the attitude you've displayed above. If you want advice, great but it isn't good to talk to people as you just have.0 -

And Viktory attacking his Grammer/spelling Shame on you. £150 a month is nothing Op would be getting more on JSA which is obviously a massive tax on the op.
Suggesting he takes an evening course to improve his (obviously poor) English is hardly attacking him. In fact, I didn't mention his spelling or grammar! However, improving his literacy skills can only improve his employment chances.
£150 a month is a lot for a single person - considering this is merely for utilities and food. There are many on here that manage on much less. Again, I made a reasonable suggestion that the OP consider heading over to the Old Style board for some help in making his money go further.
Perhaps you should read other people's posts a little more carefully before getting on the white horse in future.0 -

(A silver lining I guess)
I have asked her to leave but she keeps on with the hate, I guess you just have to be rude to some people Before they back off :think:0 -
Pundless, don't feel that you have to justify yourself. Stay calm and think clear about what you need to do now. I know some people have upset you, but you have to take a good all round view of the opinions, take what you need and ditch the rest9/70lbs to lose0
