RX8 being powerful (ish) and rear wheel drive almost certainly has a limited slip diff. Maybe this needs a bit of attention.

As it's been recently serviced I'd check the bill and see if they changed the diff oil as different (wrong) oil could well affect the behaviour of the diff

Unless the tyres are overinflated I don't see why they would suddenly start spinning.I don't suppose they sprayed back to black on them( the stuff that makes your tyre walls nice and shiny)? That could make them slippy but should soon wear off.

If your tyres were worn, then you'd most likely notice the wheels losing grip more under cornering and in a car like yours you'd see the rear end come sailing past the friont on your way to the nearest ditch.

oh please, if your wheels are spinning then your traction control has either been turned off by accident or broken, its not exactly a difficult one to work out

Steady on, no need to be rude. Clearly I don't know that, or I wouln't be asking advice from the (mostly) helpful people on here.

Thanks for the mainly helpful responses on here! I don't pretend to know much about cars and how they work. My Hubby works away and he deals with that side of things. I will be booking it back in the garage and let them take a look, I will check the tyre pressure though, that I can do!! :T

I read the title of the thread and the first half of the page and thought jannine is pulling our leg!

I still think what the OP describes is mostly driving style.

If it is any consolation I have noticed that pulling out of a side road sharpish in order to slot in with main road traffic in the last week or so is quite likely to cause my front wheels to spin slightly ... I put it down to a general build up of roadside extra dry dust and debris which has not been washed away by a good downpour.

However, I also have new tyres only a few hundred miles old, so it could be that.

I don't have a powerful car like an Rx8 so I don't have traction control or a limited slip differential to write home about.

In London and elsewhere I see large numbers of drivers who accelerate much more rapidly than I do and are pushing me at roundabouts. Strangely, I find, many of them are not high speed cruisers so I quite often find I overtake them without fuss two miles down the road :p . I have an orginal clutch which shows no signs of wear whch has done 190,000 miles ! (mostly motorway miles I will admit).

I might be wrong because I don't know much about Rx8s, but I think there's a good chance the OP's garage will just smile, especially if the OP is paying :D

I seriously think the OP is having a laugh ... is yours blue, jannine? ... like this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L5JxwXutAig ... or is that the 7 ?? What do I know? I just like the Wankel sound :rotfl:

I can ensure you I'm not having a laugh, I'm concerned about my car, hence why I asked for advice.

I've been driving for 12 years, and never had this problem before, so don't think I'm doing anything wrong.

The garage can smile as much as they want, and yes I will be paying if there is a problem to fix.

Not looked at the Youtube vid, didn't think it would help my situation, but my car isn't blue, its black and a beautiful car it is as well!!

I've been driving 40 years, 4 of those clarring about in mud finding out about wheelspin and no slip differential, a day or two learning about wheelspin on ice and snow at a rally school in the Welsh Mountains, and 36 on the road. I am now sure I do something wrong every time I drive :p

My Audi is serviced by Audi. I have caught them making the odd mistake, but not so often at £110 an hour. If your Rx8 is serviced by Mazda then be prepared to be told there is nothing wrong with it. Then what? Can you tell them why you are right and they are wrong?

Does your car have DSC? A quick Google for Rx8 and wheelspin brings up hits like the YouTube video and also hits like this: http://rotarynews.com/node/view/212

If you seriously have no idea what is wrong with your car, better let the experts try it and check it especially so you know where you are before it finally does rain ... or maybe it did today

Better book it in tomorrow ;)

PS The YouTube video just showed a bit of wheelspin  (more or less than yours we might never know) and that unmistakeable rotary engine sound, lovely :p

Does it happen when somebody else drives the car?
