Help - Wheels Spinning

Hi All

Was after some help/advice please!

I've noticed recently that when i accelerate my wheels have been spinning, also they just don't feel like they are sticking to the road (if that makes sense!) The car has recently been serviced and I've checked the tyres and they look fine, not bald or punctured.

Any ideas, I'm feeling like I have little control of my car at the moment.

  • Check the tyre pressures - could be that the garage have over-inflated them?

Also, you don't say where you live but if it has been raining after a long hot dry spell, then the roads can get very greasy after a spot of the wet stuff.

Softly softly on the gas pedal in the meantime.

I didn't think to check they tyre pressure, just assumed the garage would have taken care of that (especially for the extremly high price of the service!) I will do that tomorrow though.

I did think about the weather but it started to happen about 3 weeks ago and there was no rain then, its raining today though and the wheels are still spinning.

Use less throttle and they will stop spinning.

Does the car have traction control?

    What car is it?

I have never had wheels spinning before, so don't think its something I'm doing. Its an RX8, I've had it nearly 2 years and never had this problem before.

Are the wheels actually slipping - you should be able to hear if so - or it just that you're accelerating and not going as fast as you think you should?

That could be a slipping clutch - your revs will rise, but not your speed.

Sorry, not really sure what you mean? My wheels are spinning and I can hear them. For example I was waiting to turn into a junction, my car was stationary, I saw a space, raised my clutch and accelerated and my car didn't move as quickly as normal and I felt and heard my wheels spinning.

I hope that makes sense, its really hard to explain! I don't think I'm driving any differently and the car just doesn't feel the same as it used to.

    Sorry if I wasn't clear.

If your tyres are slipping on the road surface, you'll hear a 'scrubbing' noise.

If your clutch is slipping, your engine will rev and you may feel some vbration as it tries to bite.

    Is this a joke?

Wheels spin when you overcome the level of grip.Less throttle gives you more grip.As said roads do get very greasy when it rains after a dry spell but nothing an average driver shouldn't be able to cope with.

Unless your driving style has suddenly become that of the 'chav in a corsa' type, I really don't see how your tyres have suddenly lost their grip.

I would go and get the Clutch checked before you burn it out completely.
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.
