    Thank you for your replies.

I cannot draw on my own experience, as I got married young and went out to work. I then funded myself through uni when I was older.

He started uni at 16 and did well considering he was so young. He seemed to be doing OK this year and in most subjects he has. We are waiting on the retake results he took to see what course of action we take next.

We are considering selling our house anyway, so a lot of decisions need to be made in all areas.

That's a very young age to go to university - I take it you're in Scotland? A lot of students don't really get the most (in some cases don't really get much at all) out of university, at least academically, because they are simply too young / immature to handle the freedom it affords them. I'm not criticising - I often think how different my own student years would be if I had them again now. As Oscar Wilde said, the trouble with youth is that it's wasted on the young...

    It sure is.

Yes we are in Scotland. We had a long discussion after his Highers about his future.

We all felt he was ready for uni and the subjects were more suited to his strengths and skills, than staying another year at school.

He was having trouble with his long standing girlfriend around the time of his finals in June. He didn't tell us about it and assumed everything was OK. He has now split from her and catching up on his 'lost' teenage years.

For a month, we thought it would help him recover, so let him go out more than we would have liked. In August, we said, it is time to start rebuilding your life and look for some vacation and PT work.

To be fair he is trying to set up a LAN party business, approximately every three months over the weekend, which has done quite well, except two people have stabbed him in the back and are having one on the same days this month. It is in it's infancy but isn't enough to support him just now. He is also having to pay us back for our investment in the business.

It is a start, but I feel he needs a part time regular job, so he has regular income. It will also stop him staying in bed all morning and get used to the real world. He will meet more people this way too.

I am not sure how he feels about university. He is not the most open of people and occasionally get snippets about how he feels. I am the total opposite, if something bugs me, I talk about it.
