am attempting cherry jam...
ooo let me know how it goes - you might need to add some extra acid to get a good setI used lime juice in my last batch of blackcurrant & cherry jam, and it's yummy
on the flying front, not much todayWM/DW on and now emptied, & am doing some more dot to dotting in the room of doom (ie the office). I can now get in the door at least
Old dog still not great, but no worse. She's eating, which is the main thing, even if it is eggs, rice, & fish rather than her own food!!

have added lemon juice
have also simmered them whole - so will have to stone skim later. I may well regret this decision...Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily DickinsonJanice 1964-2016

I don't have a problem with cherry jam setting, so the lemon should do the trickBefore I got my stoner, I'd count them in and count them out again - fine for damsons, $%"£"$$%%! for cherries :rotfl:

Catch up with you all in a couple of hours or so xxx
I think there was an accident earlier on or at least that's what they were saying on the radio at lunchtime,Luckily I came back from thurrock and missed the M25 as had heard it was bad.
I have picked up DS's new boots, DW done, Made sandwiches for journey tomorrow, taken car to kwik fit to get the nice man to inflate the tyres:D Picked kids up from schools/nursery. Bought more bits of uniform for september and done 2 x HHI so it is all done and out the way until I wash the uniforms. DS has picked at his tea but he is going in the bath in a minute.

well the jam tastes fine, looks like it will be a firm set and the jars will have warning labels on them
'may contain stones':o actually it should be a guarantee...I CBA to count how many cherries in 4-and-a-half pounds
and I had to bung half a jar in an unsterilised jar so that will go in the fridge and be eaten first.
taste yummy though
(I have a garlic press with an integral cherry stoner which would have been fine if the cherries were half the size)Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily DickinsonJanice 1964-2016

One, two, three, LOTS Valli. My lovely DH made me a cherry stoner with a cork and some welding wire - worked well. The jam was lovely and DS 1 ate all of the first batch and most of the second batch. Watching the rest of the cherries rot on next doors side is heartbreaking - their tree, not mine.
Congratulations Grateful
Last day of school, and I am supposed to be off for a fortnight. I already have an 'essential' meeting booked for Monday *grits teeth and thinks of the overtime*
House is still a tip but I did hoover last night at least.'If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need' Marcus Tullius Cicero0 -
Evening Everyone
Not a lot of housey stuff done today sadly but its still lovely from yesterday so not too worried. Have some lovely sausages for dinner tonight so I will enjoy those with a glass of wine I think.
Need to keep kitchen tidy and fill DW and possibly have a run around with the hoover but that is getting more and more unlikely
Have a great Friday evening everyone0 -
Hex if it were me I would go round, offer to pick their cherries in exchange for a couple of jars of jam (or better still get them to pick them). But I'm cheeky like that *grins*
Or train the mini-hexes in the fine art of scrumping;)
ALL my colleagues know that IF they provide me with the fruit they will get a jar of jam (or two). That's how I got the cherries!
DD made spanish omelette in 'tech' - I am hoping that it will warm up ok in the over for tea...Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily DickinsonJanice 1964-2016
