In addition, just because a debt is Statute Barred doesn't mean the person doesn't owe it and any company are quite within the law to ask for repayment - why do people have such an issue with that ?

I am pleased that someone has resurrected this thread - I can't believe that it is only 2 months since it was started.

Niether can I believe that someone could post such a provocative and completely unasked for comment as this!

Hadn't seen it before as that poster was on my 'ignore' list for other personally directed and abusive posts.

Why not call them and ask them to call you back after looking at your file to discuss the matter.
Then they are paying for the call and you can have fun by making it as expensive as possible.

Keep a log and see if you can beat the previous best time.

You know Mike - it's not JUST Moorcroft, although I must admit, they are persistently unbelievable:mad:
Since my bankruptcy, I have been cosistently telephoned by MERCERS (Barclaycard). In spite of my telling them that they MUST NOT phone me as this could be viewed by OR as 'trying to obtain preferential treatment' they STILL phone.
Mackenzie Hall (none other) have been trying, for 3 months to collect a debt which was in dispute, despite my writing to them, plus the original creditor, pointing out that the debt was in dispute and that they should not be attempting to collect a debt which was in dispute. Following my declaration of bankruptcy, they have sent me, yesterday, a letter offering me a 'Full and Final Settlement' at some 60% of the DISPUTED DEBT:mad:
And STILL some people will try to defend the 'professionalism' of these 'people'

  • hehe the conversation snippet made me lol! Isnt john a plonker??!!

I guess I understand (but dont condone) the point the guy above is making, ie from a moral point of view you have borrowed money from someone and you kinda owe it if not legally, dunno but id be annoyed if I lent someone money under an agreement to pay it back and I found out I was never going to get it, actually annoyed is an understatement, but then im with shakey on this one, neither a lender or a borrower be!

Anyways, comments like that detract from the genuinly difficult position people find themselves in, most of us know that no one goes bankrupt for fun and actually its a difficult and traumatic experience and takes time to recover from.

All the best for the future and keep posting the snippets for some light relief!

I like the idea of either picking up and saying 'oh, hold on, just got to turn the iron off/bath off' etc and leaving them on the other end - how long will they wait before hanging up?

OR... not answering the 'security questions' or saying that you're a friend who's visiting etc - then if they say ANYTHING about the debt you can report them under the data protection laws!

    hehe!

    Hi
I think it's the same for all the debt collectors. I too keep getting calls from Mercers, debitas, moorcroft and Westcott.
I have wriiten to them all with details of my br. I have also told them details on the phone as well
The calls continue. They even leave messages on my answerphone that if I don't pay things will get serious.
Do they have totally inadequate/inept filing systems or do they not know the law that we are NOT allowed to pay them once we have been declared br and that it is upto the OR

Ihave now stored their numbers in my phone and programmed it not to ring when they call. I then notice later 4 missed calls...and the message light flashing

    good luck

I usually ask them to prove who they are, by asking them who my German teacher was in the third year at school, or what country the birthmark on my bum looks like. If they can't answer I tell them I'm reporting them to the police for pretending to be my bank (or whatever). Usually gets rid of the (INSERT NAUGHTY WORD HERE).

BTW I never took German and I don't have a birthmark.
