And they obviously gave you double dose of 'how to be sarky' and triple 'remember to show no empathy for what people are going through'. And the antidote to 'there but for the grace of god' gene has worked very well........A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

kate1976 wrote:Ahh good old moorcroft, I had a call off them yesterday which went like this:
Moorcroft: We'd like you to settle this account so that we can close it
Me: I'm sorry but I can't afford to pay in full which is why I've been paying the agreed amount of £20 a month, more if I can afford it.
Moorcroft: So you can pay £110 in the next 7 days and the remaining £112 next month so your account can be closed?
Me: I'm sorry but I didn't say that, I just told you I can't afford it so there is no way you can get those payments!
Moorcroft: Ok, so if you pay those amounts, no legal action will be taken and your account with us will be closed.
Me: I don't think you're hearing me, I can't afford it!
Moorcroft: Ok then miss 1976 I'll put that you'll be making the payment in my computer and the £110 shall be with us by 24 November.
Me: No, you really are not listening are you? I have no money, I shall continue paying the amount that was agreed when the account was first set up.
Moorcroft: Ok, so that's £110 this month and then the remaining £112 next month and that means no legal action will be taken and your account will be closed.
Me: I'm sorry but I've told you I can't pay but you're obviously not listening, I shall continue with the payment of £20 a month.
Moorcroft: ok if you phone in with your first payment of £110 next week, that will be great!
Me: Whatever, goodbye!
Why can't they listen?? Do I not speak english?? I always try to be polite on the phone no matter who it is but if they phone again next week after not recieving my £110 I'll give them hell!!
Well after this rant I sent a letter, recorded, to Moorcroft explaining that due to financial circumstances I would be unable to afford the payments they requested and I'd be sticking to my agreed amounts of £20 a month paying through their website.
This morning I woke up to find a payment book and a letter thanking me for my offer to pay the full amount in 2 monthly instalments!!I give up, I really do, let them take me to court if they want, I'm paying what I can so they can't really squeeze anymore out of me...can they?!

Your post just demonstrates exactly why this thread was started in the first place. How CAN anyone justify the behaviour of any company that behaves in this despicable manner?
As the title of the thread says - they are THUGS plain and simple. :mad:I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.

i will second what rog2 said.
how can a company that totally ignores what they are told carry on in business.
It emphasises the point that all correspondence with these people should be done in letter format0 -
Well I've just sent them the letter again, I should send them an invoice for all the recorded mail I've sent them!!!
I really can't understand how they stay in business either, it's madness, pure madness!!
I am concerned by their threats of legal action though, surely they can't do anything if I'm still making payments can they? I'm trying not to let it stress me but it is niggling away at the back of my mind!Kate
