Do peoples terms put you off bidding?
Comments

It is a bit strong, but if people dont like his terms (how enforcible they are I dont know!), they dont have to bid on the item. Its simple really

I always include some terms on my items as I've been mucked around with feedback. I.E, people haven't left me feedback as a seller when I have left them feedback as a buyer.
I always put that buyer feedback will be given when item has been recieved and seller feedback has been left for me. I think you have to include some of your own terms because there are people on ebay who are more than happy to take the slash. Thankfully, they are in the minority (IMHO anyway).0 -

Having read on here about people getting screwed over by buyers collecting then using Paypal's automatic refund policy, I'm requesting cash only even tho I have to include PP in the listing. The wording I've used is
"The default setting for this listing includes PayPal but for this item I can accept payment via cash on collection only.
This is only because some unscrupulous Ebayers use PayPal's automatic refund policy to defraud honest sellers.
If you win this item and pay me via PayPal then I will refund your money and contact you to arrange pick up and payment by cash."
Would this put you off? If someone wins it for 99p then they can have it for nothing as far as I'm concerned cos I just want rid, so long as they collect.
It probably wouldn't put me off but it is enough to get your listing pulled and a warning on your seller dashboard. You must not say you will refuse paypal, people do get suspended for terms like that.
For such a cheap item, and since you say you'd give it away anyway, take out the cash requirement, merely say that cash on collection is allowed. Then when a buyer wins get to them immediately by email asking for cash..don't give them the chance of paying by paypal. Even if they do pay by paypal it is not a usually scammed item, so I really wouldn't worry.

I would probably avoid your auctions if there was someone else selling who didn't have your strange terms.
Surely you sell for cash, not for feedback, so why mention feedback at all it just looks a bit, well, odd. It also screams 'I don't trust the quality of what I am selling and am scared to leave you positive feedback'.
If you want to trade feedback then find a site purely to do that, and don't worry about raising cash at all.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Why do you think a buyer would take any notice of your request that they leave feedback?
Feedback only matters to new buyers who don't have enough, or is there something else I have not thought of?
Why put off potential buyers for something meaningless that people would just ignore?0 -
The reason I like to get good feed back is because it shows that I am a reliable buyer/seller. I have a low feed back rating of 46 as I have only been selling just over a year or so.
Anyone who says feedback is meaningless is talking cobblers. It doesn't matter if the buyer takes notice of that or not.. all I'm stating is I'm happy to give feedback if the buyer leaves it for me first.
As a buyer, I always pay buy paypal as soon as I can, so I would expect reasonably prompt payment as a seller.
Soolin, I am completely honest in the descriptions and photos I put on ebay. All the stuff I have sold is mainly for decluttering anyway and All seller feedback that has been left has been very positive, as I try my best to post the item once the payment has been recieved via paypal.
Maybe, for more experienced sellers, the odd buyer not leaving feedback might not make a difference, but for those of us who are trying to build up a good reputation as a seller, its a bit demorolising not to be left feedback when you have made a good effort to get the item posted on time, packed well etc0 -
Just seen this:
:rotfl: :rotfl:if you have an ebay feedback of 5 or less please dont bid as i have had trouble with non-payments
On 10-Jul-10 at 20:04:39 BST, seller added the following information:if you have an ebay feedback of 5 or less dont bid
On 11-Jul-10 at 22:52:53 BST, seller added the following information:if you have an ebay feedback of less than 5 and you bid your bid will be cancelledThis is my opinion. There are many others like it but this is mine:kisses2: Fiancee of the "lovely" DaveAshton :kisses2:I am a professional ebay seller. I work hard at my job, I love my job, if you think it's silly that's your problem not mine.

If you are referring to my post, I was talking about feedback left to buyers, not sellers.
As a buyer, as long as you already have some good feedback, enough to allow you to bid, then I don't think it really matters.0 -
You seem to be missing the point of ebay. The idea is to make a little money. If you are more worried about people leaving feedback than the actual act of selling your concentration is in the wrong place. The reason I like to get good feed back is because it shows that I am a reliable buyer/seller. If you are a good seller the FB comes anyway. Putting statements like you do in your listing i'm afraid makes you look like a bit of a numpty and leaves you open to some vindictive buyers who dislike sellers trying to dictate when FB is given. Not only will you put buyers off you also make it more likely someone may neg you for that.
There was a post on the ebay community boards the other week when a buyer was leaving negs due to that reason.
The only terms and conditions that matter are ebays and paypals. If you are a business you need a returns policy but other than that whatever you write is just pointless and paypal will supersede and silly Terms and conditions you put in place,0
