Update, Samsung delivered Galaxy S this morning along with shall we call it phone x as there is no name for it yet and just in test period. So far Galaxy S is superb beats the HTC and iphone hands down, set up very easy. Screen very clear and responsive, on first looks if it wasn't for saying samsung would mistake it for iphone and makes HTC look like a cheap alternative. Phone x. WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! roll on it's release, 18 months they say, this will revolutionise the way a lot of people do things. I can't get hold of it atm my development lads have nicked it and seem to be drooling at the mouth and stroking it fondly :D. I am not allowed to say much about it bar it's android. Will keep you updated.

I love getting new toys to play with before they are out in the shops.
  • I've got this decision to make in 2 months time, 18 months seems to have gone very slowly! I like the look of the Samsung Galaxy S, but the built quality seems a bit plasticy... i'd be worried about it breaking over the course of a contract. The HTC Desire and Wildfire seem so much more solid..

Anyway, any idea what the first phone on the market will be to have Android 2.2 (FroYo) ?

If you have an Android based one it basically means you can't afford an iPhone so you slag them off in jealousy.

    ?

When you get to test and play with new phones you get an idea as to what you prefer. I have never ever walked in a shop and purchased a phone because someone tells me it is good, i make an informed choice as i am open minded about these things.

The HTC Desire and the new Sansung phone are truly great working phones and don't cost that much less than the iphone. The only thing that the iphone wins on is the screen and nothing else. If you could please tell us why the iphone is better than any other phone please do.
  • The iPhone has video calling (FaceTime) oooh.. magical video calls. What next, bluetooth that works properly?

Just a minor point about the poll, but the 'other' category may include Android phones not made by HTC.

    nexus 1 already has it!

but the nexus 1 is already obsolete  as google stopped selling it directly and they dont plan on stocking it again anymore for direct sales! they have withdrawn the phone from some usa networks and recommending htc phones as their flagship phone for those networks instead.

ps: people concerened about look of the back plastic on galaxy s could get slip on case that fits snug and has got a matt finish unlike the standard case. hardware quality should be good as samsung manufacture parts for almost all handsets on the market including the processor for the iphone4, screens for htc desire, screens for many other manufacturers, chips for many manufacturers etc.

yes the OP has loaded the dice against android (? inadvertantly) by structuring his poll the way it looks now. it should have read android instead of htc. now android votes get split between htc and other section.

ps: fifer, i looked into the issue of ROM etc and it is indeed ROM not RAM. i forgot which thread you reffered to this. there are ROMs like EPROM etc and that sort of ROM is what is used for non volatile memory. RAM is only for volatile memory. this is a frequent cause for confusion it seems. this EPROM can be earased by external interference too by ultraviolet light depending on type of EPROM but dont think this is the version used now a days on phones anyway, also fast alternating voltages and also some types of DC voltages can also erase the ROM memory and if fluctuating magnetic fields induce fluctuating currents then apparently they can erase memory too. i forgot which thread this issue was being discussed, hence the mention here.

Indeed, as I voted "Other" for my Galaxy S, as it's not an HTC phone.
