Thanks for that bubblesmoney. Yes I know the phone is faulty but HTC refuse to acknowledge it. It does not get hot during charging, just when in standby. The problem is not the App Killer, it is the phone. It has already fried the mini-sd card. However HTC keep sending it back unfixed. Small Claims Court is my next step. I'm afraid my experience of HTC CS is that the can't tell their a*se from their elbow. For example they scheduled a pickup for Monday 12 July instead of 5 July thereby wasting me a whole week. And despite their promise that after three attempts to fix the problem thay would issue me a new phone they are still quibbling. I have had it with them I'm afraid. Bunch of time-wasters.

Before you try taking them to court, have you contacted Trading Standards (Consumer Direct)? I think your best bet is to try them first, as it will look better for you should you have to go to court. The phone is obviously faulty and not fit for the purpose.

getting back to the android v apple debate!

the signal issue is relavant on a phone! some excerpts from reputed websites....

" Consumer Reports tested three iPhone 4s and several other AT&T phones in their RF isolation chamber that simulates varying levels of signal from every carrier, and found that the iPhone 4 was the only handset to suffer signal-loss issues."

'consumer reports' is the usa equivalent of 'Which' in the uk.

"However, now that we've confirmed and clarified that the antenna issue affects every iPhone 4, we can take on the next step, which is sorting out exactly when and where the issue is most severe. Either that, or Apple can do something to actually fix the issue -- we'll just have to wait and see. "

no idea about ipads or devices that size as i dropped plans on getting a netbook after buying the desire!

for samsung galaxy s specs and detailed review see links on this link http://www.electricpig.co.uk/samsungsmartphone/galaxys
instead of buying it outright there seem to be better deals on contracts.

yes the galaxy s has agps, bluetooth 3.0, DLNA, wifi n, super amoled, 16gb internal memroy expandable to 48gb by adding on upto 32gb micro sdhc card. swappable battery and memory card, think the camera is 8megpix, chip is same architecture as iphone4 but think it is a newer version with more graphical processing power, 6 axis gyroscope so gaming will be better than iphone, video processing on multiple benchmarks beats every other phone on the planet (available online) as of now as far as i am aware! even games like quake 3 have been ported to it and played at decent frame rates.

see screen comparison videos online. same for graphics processing videos. and web browsing and typing via swype etc.

as far as i know no other phone has DLNA media streaming capabilities as of now.

guess the samsung wave might have some similar features but not all as it is a lower cost device but bada operating system unlike the samsung galaxy s which is android 2.1 due to get 2.2 soon

i dont know if it has wifi proxy access though.

last but not the least even though slightly wider, the galxy s is actually lighter than the iphone4.
Update on yesterday, contract is not an option for me, one reason we don't get the same deals in the Isle of Man but do have the advantage of 100% full national 3G coverage with no low spots which for the iphone 4 means nobody here has experienced any signal drop and second I would never go contract with a phone due to the rip off deals, I find buy outright and monthly contract you can make deals in the shop that beat any contract with phone, now for the samsung galaxy s, my company is an engineering company that I formed to adapt devices for use with disabled people, this is one of the reasons I liked the iphone as it was easy to use and my tech lads made a quick 4 or 5 apps to help disabled with apple waiving any fees. But.... a quick call after your info and I have blagged a nice 16gb galaxy S to test and the promise of the new Galaxy S pro and a tablet begining of next month to test. the S should be here in a day or two so I will report. I do realy hate the way most of the HTC phone operate but this looks to have been made to clone the iphone in the way it operates which will be a massive bonus, especially for the users I wish to approve it for, as for the tablets this info may help anyone you know with impaired vision, the ipad can be used as a phone ignoring what old jobby (like the scottish pun :D) boy says, we have just made an app that turns the ipad into a massive telephone pad and contacts list, apple are refusing to add this so jailbroken only I am afraid. now Samsung say their pad will allow you to either be used as a phone or tether direct to any samsung phone but their research inform me there may be a pad on release September ish but the full spec one with variable sizes may be at least a year off so I will keep my ipad for now but the 3GS may go after I test the 3 phones they are sending (sorry not allowed to give any info on the 3rd one) . Anyway bubblesmoney, thanks for the original info, I will keep you updated

I am keen to see what HP do with a pad / slate with WebOS. I think that and what you already have and are to test will be of great help to those with limited mobility or other disability.

The Galaxy S is a good phone, i used 1 for a month and liked it.

Problem with HP is they are too linked to windoze and after devices like the HTV Samsung and iphones people now like that kind of front end with simple to use icons etc, android a light advantage being open source that there will be a big increase in apps very soon I feel although atm apple have the edge, this is what has made the ipad so well liked even by apple haters, it is a decent sized tablet to do everything your phone does at a size you want. People don't want windoze any more and are ad sick of gates as the are of the big jobby. Although I have loved the ipod and iphone series to date I do believe the iphone 4 may be the biggest flop apple have seen, the only way out is a massive redesign and to include things other phones have like removable battery and ability to add memory via cards, whith the up and coming android models unless this happens apple have now lost that slight market hedge they had. As you can see yesterday I was shown the samsung galaxy S and trust me I am a very cycnical old git, but I was impressed to the point of a total reversal towards android, as some here will testify. Even HTC will struggle to better samsung I believe that phone and future phone and pads will I believe swing the market, trust me you want to see a pic and spec of one they have in development and testing that really excited me, little insight it will even enhance your driving.

As far as I know, the Samsung Galaxy S tablet comes with a sim card slot, ready to be used as a phone too. The Galaxy S pro looks bloody great!

Jim, I am jealous! Keep up the good work. :)

I'm not into brand loyalty, prefering to buy the best product which meets my needs at the time, but over the years, we've probably owned more Samsung and Panasonic electronics than any other brands. When Samsung get it right, they get it right so I have every expectation that the Galaxy range of products could be very good indeed. I'd be interested to play with a Galaxy tablet, although I suspect I'd like a slightly smaller form-factor than the iPad.

Having used all three (briefly for Android admittedly), WebOS is best for me. Far slicker, proper multitasking which you are fully aware of and in control of, hardware keyboard devices. Syncs over the air, forget about plugging into iTunes. I don't have to think about syncing anymore.
