Was something that really occured to us...3 Babes in 12 months and two weeks...rather late then... but we thought about our family history with so many multi births...Bless Mr. Old he had the snip at a very young age.....and bless my Mother she paid for it.........good job it was not a NHS job because he had an extra tube and possiblely they would have missed that on the conveyor belt alternative....mmmmm too much information maybe...
Three was hectic, just like having triplets really but I was young and full of get up and go(and no sense of timing)

When I had my twin boys I received alot of negative comments (even from nurses and especially from my oh's side of the family) saying that I wouldn't have enough milk etc for two. I'm a bit stubborn so it in fact made me more determined then ever to keep feeding lol I totally breastfeed my boys until they were 4 and half months old before begining to wean and kept feeding until they were 8 months old.

How do they think people managed years ago before formula milk? Where's their sense?

    Jxx
And it looks like we made it once again
Yes it looks like we made it to the end

Does anyone know what are the odds of people having twins?

My Uncle and Antie are Twins (mum side) so i have no cousins or close family in the 2nd generation that are twins and heard they skip one?

So are my chances of having twins more because there are twins already in my close family?

I made it to 36 weeks with my non ID twins, 5lb and 6lb 9oz. But my friend had ID boys at 40 weeks weighing 7lb and 8lb 2oz:eek: She had them in Finland, I think they are more likely to induce at 38 weeks here, and dont leave you as long as that.

All these twin birth stories take me back, but mine have just started school this week:D
  • I only made it to 32 weeks with fraternal twins.

I was booked for a c section at 37 weeks, the consultant said he had 'given up' booking twin births in for a 38 week c section because no-one ever got there.

Mine have just started school this week too:D

I can not remember the statistics and the stats do vary with things like age and family history.

Identical twin conception has nothing whatsoever to do with family history. That can happen to any one of us at any time.

Fraternal twins are said to run through the Maternal gene - to get fraternal twins more than one egg needs to be released at the same time. Usually only one egg is released at each ovulation. So if your Mother or Grandmother had fraternal twins (or more:eek: ) then yes, your chances of concieving twins is greater.
  • I had my non-ID twins at 39 weeks 5 days! They weighted in at 6 and 7lbs - pretty good considering my first was 7lbs at 2 weeks overdue!

Pleaded to be induced in the end lol, and was a fantastic birth, 80 mins start to finish. Little bit different to 36 hours of hell with the first.

And one tip on feeding....I breastfed my twins successfully for 4 months, and used some advice given to me by a retired midwife. In the first couple of weeks, when one twin wakes to be fed, wake the other and feed them at the same time whether they seem to want it or not. This gets them into synch with each other after a few days and gives mum more of a break, otherwise you're constantly in a round of feeding which is totally exhausting.

And don't worry about supplying enough milk for 2 babies, simple economics of supply and demand. I had so much kept having to rotate the stock in the fridge lol.

    Good luck!!

what a coincedence...my boy girl twins have started school this week too...
they were 10 days early for a normal birth but i would have been induced 2 days later...weighed in at 6lb5 and 6lb7 and it was sheer torture from 7 months onwards, at 6 months i looked liked I was about to drop! My daughter was head down with son lying across the top as in a T shape, he did a full flip 2 weeks before he was born, it was like a scene from alien and just as scary!!!!!
I think your daughter will need to take any help that is offered if she has a 18 month old but she WILL cope...you have to....a cut long story.. but i was left alone to cope, with 4 other children aged 3 5 8 and 10 at the time.....I think I coped better then ,when I had no time to think, than when I do now, when they are all not so reliant and time to dwell!!!
On the plus side...twins are so fascinating....and your daughter must be prepared to be stopped by strangers who are curious to see twins...which I found really nice...and other twin parents stop and chat and you almost become part of an elite twin group...there is so much to talk about....enjoy.
the medical bit....Identical twins are a much more complicated birth as they share the same plancenta and 1 twin can take more of the benefit and being a lot bigger than their sibling and often ending in an induced early birth.
Anyone can have identical twins as that is just a freak of nature when the egg split. Non identical twins run in the mothers side of the family, my aunty had twins, and are more likely to happen to a woman in her 30's as a result in 2 eggs being released at the same time...and yes, if you already have twins you are more likely to have more twins (or more) in future......yikes!
Anyone want to start a twins group on here?

she's great most days ,though very big ( the support belt is helping),I'm sure she'll be fine once she can get the ifs and buts of the birth sorted in her head:D
  • Hi Trafalgar

My brother browses these forums alot and pointed out this post to me and I had to sign up and reply! (whick I did last night but messed it up and it didnt post  )

Firstly, congratulations on your expected twins, multiples are a wonderful thing!:D

My non id twins are 6 months next week, its been hard but also fantastic at the same time! Twin 1 was breech from my 20 wk scan so I was booked in for a cesearean section at 38 weeks, I was in hospital for a couple of days due to high blood pressure when my contractions started and they whipped me up to theater 4 hours later, my girls were born at 37 1/2 weeks, 5lb14 and 4lb 10. The section was a very positive experience and I was glad the decision and pain was taken away from me lol :o .I was huge and had a propper waddle when I walked :rotfl: Most consultants I believe wont let you past 38 weeks and there are a heck of alot that go that long.

I couldnt have got through my pregnancy without the TAMBA (Twins and Multiple Births Association). I joined the message board and everyone there has experience of multiples in some capacity, wether it Mum, Mum to be, Grandparents, Dads or Sisters. It is a wealth of knowledge, friendly and a propper community. TAMBA is a charity (Mods I hope this is ok, feel free to edit and tell off as appropriate!- it is my first post!:D )and if you join (I havnt yet but intend to in the future) then you get discounts from various places for various twin realted things.

Hats off to you ladies who breast fed:T , I managed 2 weeks but was too tired and tearful to carry on and was gutted to stop, a happy MUm makes happy babies though and it was the right decision for us. My midwife did tell me though twin Mums bodies get extra efficient and can cope with it.

As Bella said, non id's run down the women of the family, my Mum is non id, identicals can happen to anyone. I apparently have a 1 in 16 chance of having twins again (over 30, 1 set already and in the family) I say bring it on, but I would like boys next time and not for a while yet!

Oooh, Im all broody again! Feel free to PM if I can help with anything :D

You are at the lovely 6 months age, my favourite age, when they are fascinating, enjoyable but not too mobile. Believe me, twins work mischeif in pairs and get up to all sorts of trouble and they have a moto whilst you are out with them which is "you go one way and I'll go the other"
Anyone know where I'm coming from here... :)
