They don't always go to term, but I don't know how it compares with a single birth, IYSWIM. Sorry no direct experience!

Our twins were due on July 20 and arrived June 16,about 5 weeks early.I think this is about normal.
  • Our twins went their full term...one just under 5lbs and the other 6.5lbs...that was in 1969... yet we are still doing Our Term though..that is never ending

i agree, Ive never known any twins go full term I agree with suffolk IME, 5 weeks early is about average :)
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

I always thought 38 weeks was considered "term" with twins. My friend has just had twins at 38 weeks. At the end of the day the closer she can get to 40 weeks the better for the twins but more discomfort for her.

Good luck. My friends twins are 3 weeks old now. Hard work but worth every minute. She is breastfeeding and I am so proud of her.
  • I had my twin boys (19 years ago) at 39 weeks and they were pretty big for twins. The largest being 7lb 11oz and the the smaller 7lb 1oz.

I remember towards the end when they tried to move (obviously there wasn't much space left lol) you would see an elbow/foot push my skin out (quite far, my husband used to freak out lol) and then you would see it move across my stomach and then back down....ohhh that was sooo weird lol

The midwife had kept telling me at about 35 weeks that I'd have them anytime from then on but they just weren't ready.

I must admit it was pretty uncomfortable towards the end, as I got larger I wore a support but then at the very end I couldn't find one that fitted properly as I was so large :(

I wish your daughter all the very best :)

  • my twins where 10 weeks early. that was because of me being ill not them!
about average to go to 36 weeks. full term is 38 weeks for twins.
i wish her luck. people always say how do you manage twins. well i dont know anything different. it is the same as having one, its amasing how quick you adapt.
At last I have a signature.

ohhh its making me feel broody lol

I hope your friend continues to do well with the breastfeeding...it can be pretty tiring and demanding :)

When I had my twin boys I received alot of negative comments (even from nurses and especially from my oh's side of the family) saying that I wouldn't have enough milk etc for two. I'm a bit stubborn so it in fact made me more determined then ever to keep feeding lol I totally breastfeed my boys until they were 4 and half months old before begining to wean and kept feeding until they were 8 months old.

I'm not sure how your friend is feeding but the nurse at the hospital was trying to get the boys to lay the same way but I felt it alot easier (especially when there was no one around to hand the babies to me ) to scoop them up under each arm and have their legs under my arms (propped up on cushions when they were smaller).

Wish her all the best with her new little ones :)
