Twins

When I had my twins 17 years ago, I started to have fortnightly scans at about 32 weeks. No problems, but the midwives are just more concerned with the onset of high blood pressure and the growth and position of the babies.
Mine were induced at 38 weeks due to slightly raised blood pressure. After 36 weeks or so, an elective C-section is often scheduled if the first baby is breech, as it is unlikely to turn due to lack of room.
Inductions are fairly common so the hospital can ensure you deliver when there are enough paediatricians and special care cots available.
A friend of mine turned up at our local maternity department in labour with twins, only to be told there weren't 2 available incubators, in case things didn't go as planned. She was put in an ambulance and sent to Bristol, but was informed en route that they had had an emergency admission since she had been dispatched and could no longer take her. She was diverted to Cardiff and had two healthy boys a few hours later!"Cheap", "Fast", "Right" -- pick two.0 -

My twins were booked to be delivered by caesarian at 38 weeks (they were breech and transverse and had no room to move), they ended up being delivered the day before because my waters broke though. They were 4lb 11 and 6lb but seemed huge to me cos my first was only 4lb 3!
Tell her from me having 3 close together is easier than you think (there is 13 months between my 3) and breast feeding is not only possible it's a lot easier than making enough bottles for everyone. Invest in one of those V shaped cushions to put on your knee to rest the twins on to feed them both at once. I was advised by my midwife to feed each twin from the same breast each time and it seemed to work. The other thing I invested in was a playpen for the eldest when I was feeding the twins, makes me sound like a cruel mother but it meant I wasn't constantly having to stop feeding to rescue him from climbing the tv etc.
And tell her to be careful if she has any more children, I knew a woman a few years ago who had a son, 2 years later twins boys so tried once more to get a girl and had triplets (all boys) :eek:0 -
When I was pregnant there were 2 ladies in my antenatal class who were expecting twins and both of them had theirs at least a month early. It must be horrible for her. It's bad enough carrying one.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040

You think so? I've got 2 close together and it seems like more than double the work.bethscott1970 wrote:Tell her from me having 3 close together is easier than you think2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040 -

Our two turned up at 29 weeks, one was 1.34Kg (2lb15) and the other 1.4Kg (3lb), they then spent 6 weeks in NICU.
They are now 17 months and are very very well :-) I think they came early because there was just no more room.
Our third is due, full term, today! I think it will be a week more though at least. Doctor reckons it might be a 9-10lb baby - Missus may be in for a hard time!Joe
