my twins where 10 weeks early. that was because of me being ill not them!
about average to go to 36 weeks. full term is 38 weeks for twins.
i wish her luck. people always say how do you manage twins. well i dont know anything different. it is the same as having one, its amasing how quick you adapt.
she has another under 18 months too so she'll have her hands full but she'll cope ,she has to:D

I was only about ten days short of 40 weeks and no one could believe I could hang on that long but I was in hospital for observation for 6 weeks beforehand and was able to rest which made a differance.

Best of luck to soon to be mum of twins.

At least she will know which end of a baby is up! lol;) I had not a clue when my twins were born despite reading all the books etc.

  • Multiples pregnancies are more likely to be born prematurely, but it is not guaranteed. And although your daughter might be uncomfortable, the closer she can get to 37/38 weeks the better for the babies.

I don't know how on earth a midwife thinks she can tell how long a pregnancy is going to be - the amount of times I have heard women say "the midwife has told me it won't be much longer" and then they have gone 2 weeks overdue!
"Harry, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it. Don't wait for it. Just let it happen. It could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair, or two cups of good, hot black coffee."

You are right - us midwives can't tell how long a pregnancy is going to be! In my experience, the most 'mature' twins I have delivered were at 39 weeks - There are so many variables, it is difficult to say, and it really is how long is a piece of string- which is not much help I am afraid!

Re- breastfeeding, as described by another poster, most mums of twins find the 'rugby ball hold' - one babe under each arm more convenient, especially if feeding simultanously, and we all know that milk production is related to demand - demand from 2 babies = supply for 2 babies. If you require any further info - PM.

    Hope all goes well.

Birth at any time between 37- 42 weeks is considered 'full term' now for any babies.
I thought with twins that they were likely to induce at around 38 weeks due to the higher risk of complications?

Congratulations and Good luck to her, I know how huge I felt towards the end and there was only one baby in there!lol

oh it gets worse with this midwife/team,daughter had problems having the epidural with firstborn and they gave up in the end,she is worried about this time and they don't seem to want to talk her through her concrens, brushing them aside ,I've told her to insist on discussing all the options at the next visit

  • I had identical twins, which are usually born earlier than non id twins, as they share the same placenta which can become overworked. I got to 37 weeks and then had to have a ceasearean as I had pre eclampsia, though if I had not got this I wouldn't have been allowed to go past 38 weeks. I was told that I should expect them anywhere between 32-36 weeks, so did quite well to get to 37.

my sister had twins that were five weeks early - just to add to the about five weeks early consensus of a lot of these posts. They were non identical.
