I haven't had time to catch up on the forum for a few days so hope this is the right place to put this link

Not exactly really old style as you have to buy the concentrate but there may be a way of making a concentrate for yourselves?

It's for no added sugar jam - may be useful for diabetics but I don't know as I'm not diabetic and don't know much about it.

GinnyKnit I hope you still thinking of coming to the Manchester meet in a couple of weeks time, it would be lovely to meet you. I will resurrect that topic in a short while and try to drum up some more support!

    Happy Birthday Ginny!

Ah, I need this thread. One of the downsides of keeping chickens happened today. We lost our dear Agatha. She was the friendliest of the bunch, always chattering to us, loved hopping up onto my shoulders and having piggy-back rides around the garden, all the while chattering in my ear.
This morning she didn't come out of the coop and she was all floppy. I brought her indoors and she sat on my lap for a while (and laid an egg) then I put her in the cat box in the kitchen. Rang the vets and got an appointment for later, but she didn't make it and died in my arms. I'm heartbroken. :(

I used to live in a bungalow, I was the only young person who lived in one in the road, all my neighbours were quite elderly. They were a bit wary of me at first, thought I'd lower the tone.. To begin with they weren't impressed I grew veg out the front but as things started to grow they changed their thoughts, one lady used to whistle the theme tune to the good life when she was out the front :rotfl:It also gave them an excuse to stop & talk to me & each other, as they all lived alone I'm sure it was a good thing. I was often out the front & enjoyed many a conversation. Sadly they have all passed now but I have fond memories of my time living with such an interesting group of neighbours who in time not only accepted me but became good friends. Growing your own can be wonderful in more ways than one :)

Not old, she'd only just started laying and we only got her and her sister about a month ago. We already had 3 other girls and when we got Agatha and Tabitha, they (original 3) did tend to bully them from time to time, but the new pecking order was established and Agatha and Tabitha would sleep together and peck around together. Tabitha's going to miss her sister. Tabitha knows Agatha has died now. We took her body out to show her, and after getting no response to her pecks, she sat down next to her for a while. It was very sad.

Oh, this has made me cry. Sorry for your loss, Gigervamp. My Rita Hen died about a month ago and I cried my eyes out. I still miss her. It's nothing to be ashamed about, so ignore anyone who thinks you have a screw loose. It sounds as if she had a lovely life with you. Rita was an ex-batt and I had her for a year. At least she had the chance to be a normal hen for a while instead of a prisoner. She is now in chicken heaven (yes, I am convinced there is such a place!).

Now if you'd have thought of that just as you'd started digging and persuaded someone to ring the police about your suspicious activities they might have come and dug the whole place up for you!!!

I keep peering over the hedge at next doors totally empty garden, I could just do with spreading my veggie garden over there but Kev wants privacy - shucks!

Slo cooker is bubbling away, cakes in tin, Dgs is snoring gently away and all is well with the world - bl**dy good job cos Im frazzled today, just want to put my feet up and knit. So am off to put the kettle on and relax.

Typical! The weather hasn't been very nice here and rain was forecast for today, so this morning I put a beef casserole in the slow cooker. Now, the sun is out and it's absolutely baking hot out!

Oh well. Hubby said he doesn't mind. :)

Ginny, I saw that Aldi are going to be doing fruit bushes on Thursday for £1.99 each. There will be tayberry, loganberry, goji berry, pomegranate, fig, kiwi, grape, red gooseberry and blueberry plants.
