    Happy Birthday Ginny!

Ah, I need this thread. One of the downsides of keeping chickens happened today. We lost our dear Agatha. She was the friendliest of the bunch, always chattering to us, loved hopping up onto my shoulders and having piggy-back rides around the garden, all the while chattering in my ear.
This morning she didn't come out of the coop and she was all floppy. I brought her indoors and she sat on my lap for a while (and laid an egg) then I put her in the cat box in the kitchen. Rang the vets and got an appointment for later, but she didn't make it and died in my arms. I'm heartbroken. :(

Not old, she'd only just started laying and we only got her and her sister about a month ago. We already had 3 other girls and when we got Agatha and Tabitha, they (original 3) did tend to bully them from time to time, but the new pecking order was established and Agatha and Tabitha would sleep together and peck around together. Tabitha's going to miss her sister. Tabitha knows Agatha has died now. We took her body out to show her, and after getting no response to her pecks, she sat down next to her for a while. It was very sad.

Anyway, I need to take my mind off Agatha for a bit cos I'm getting a headache from crying.

Ginny, you mentioned leather....Hubby sent me a link to a blog where a guy made a steampunk top hat out of leather. I'll see if I can find it, as it had the instructions too. 'Twas very cool!

Found it. Leather top hat tutorial.

Hugs Gigervamp and RIP Agatha. I think that was a really good idea to bring her out to Tabitha (you chose lovely names) I would never have thought to do that. Hope your other girls will be some comfort to you.

Sorry for your loss Giger vamp, But I am afraid there is a high mortallity rate in young chooks from what I have read. Thanks for the link - I love steampunk style, very me! i am going to make some steampunk jewellry maybe I will incorporate some of the leather??

yes not a bad day guys, thank you all for the wishes. Been on Bolton market on the way home and grabbed some of the very cheap day old bread, so we have a freezer full now.

mardatha, hope you have rested a bit and some of your sparkle is returning. I guess the sheep are peeping round corners now wondering when you are going to leap out with your shears in hand, keep 'em guessing hunny!
