I can just picture Mardatha unravelling a sheep and winding the wool onto a skein.

:rotfl: You think they would unravel into a neat ball ??- Wouldn't that save an awful lot of time if they do !!!
Now... if I could only figure out a way to dye the wee sods before unravelling them..;)
I found a guild of spinners who are having their annual meet in a village hall not too far away in aug, so I will blackmail somebody to take me to that. I just want to see what it's like. You can buy wool for carding and its easy to dye yourself. :D And the wool too, hopefully.

So now we have a vision of Mardatha in balaclava raiding field of sheep and dragging one to a waiting vat of pink dye then sitting dyed pink upto the elbows in the living room drying said sheep with a hairdryer before knitting straight from the animal -:rotfl:

Well I certainly needed the laugh you all provided :T

Im trying not to be true to type - if you saw how many balls of black wool I have but I do accept that every one isnt a goth like me and wears other colours :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Apparently some farms - maybe the one over your back fence - will sell you a full fleece for a tenner - cos they aren't worth much nowadays????

Sil went fishing with Dh yesterday - no they aren't allowed to bring the fish home - bl**dy pointless day if you ask me - but Sil did weigh up whether he could fit a cow in the boot cos one kept wandering over to the fence. Of course he is a soldier so probably thinks on a bigger scale than me :)

:rotfl::rotfl:Somehows I can't picture Mardatha in pink - too "fluffy" a colour for her.....

Purple or darker blue - or maybe green..

...maybes I'm extrapolating from myself - I couldnt picture myself in pink either .....too "fluffy" a colour for me as well.....

Errr...Mardatha....don't forget its possible to make your own dyes as well. Might as well go the whole hog whilst you're on a roll.....

so question is if i cut down my honeysuckle and planted my berrys almost immediatly whould it be next year they are ready for eating?

I feel I'm always butting in with gardening advice, but just wanted to say is it possible to cut it back without getting rid of it and planting raspberries etc in front of it? The reason being that I'm sure many bees are attracted to your honeysuckle and this will ensure bees pollinate your berry flowers and anything else you may grow veg wise in future. ;) HTH.

When we took over this cottage in February, there was a bush which had been allowed to develop to the stage there it was almost a tree and umberella shaped.

Whilst digging out the vinca we discovered that it was shooting from the base and was in fact a honeysuckle, OH took a saw to it and cut the whole thing down, it has now regrown and covered a support I put in; it also flowered just a few but oh so sweet smelling. Cutting it down released a whiole lot of space for me to plant up..........we have just started to cut back the tipps to try and keep it uinder control until we can get posts and trellis in to support it, I want to train it along the trellis to give us a little more privacy.

I did take pictures but cannot find the one of the garden before we started on it.........we had vinca, vonca and more vinca plus red hoyt pokers the last of which OH is just about to start digging out. I need to get in the back and start weeding again!!!
