Does anybody in here spin wool ? That was one of things further down my list to do. I'm sitting up here with no money for wool and there are half a million woolly efforts in the field at the back fence..... Hmmmmm!

You crack me up Mardatha! Honest to God, you're better than any antidepressant!

But sorry, I don't know how - I do know you can do it though, have heard others talking about it. Are you on Ravelry? I'm not yet but I bet there are folks there who know how.

I have many hidden talents Mardatha, but I am afraid that "spinning" is not one of them.

Mind you, my head does spin sometimes.

Mardatha has really taken to the self-suffieciency craze:beer:
See where 1 jar of jam can lead you too..........................
she'll be knitting curtains and growing pots and pans next..........:D

Encouraged by the yoghurt making I made my second batch yesterday and also some cream cheese. It was ment to be cottage cheese but wasnt crumbly enough,so it turned out to be cream cheese. Very nice on HM bread with chopped chives and ground black pepper added. Yummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

    That made me chuckle!

I made some soft cheese once using yoghurt. It was rather nice and I keep meaning to make some more.

From what knowledge I've gleaned of Mardartha, she'll just march in in broad daylight and order them to surrender their wool.

I went (by chance) to a farmers market on Sunday, it was lovely but there wasn't much I needed. A loaf was 2.50 and though the veg was lovely I didnt really need any. I couldn't afford the meat so it was just nice to look around. I to am avoiding supermarkets as Im getting very fed up with them. Dd nips down for essentials but am living on what I have got in the cupboard, and garden at the moment. Am off to Mums on Friday so may well nip on Bolton Market for some cheap fish.

Marmalade is bubbling away right now and its a lovely pale golden colour instead of fake orange. Corned beef hash slow cooking itself ready for tea and overnight bread is ready to go with it - light wholemeal today. Must say though the foccacia has been the biggest success to date and Im sure I have some olives knocking about for the next one.

Am feeling more satisfied today and am going to spend a peaceful afternoon knitting for the C word. I like this life most days and I dont have any bl**dy choice do I :rotfl:

Cor..in my area I'd think it was my lucky day to be able to get a loaf of bread from the farmers market for £2.50:(. Hence - part of the reason for making my own...I will be having a go at the slow no knead bread. I already do my own version of no knead bread - and good it is too:D. But...you never know...I may prefer the slow version..so will give it a go..

Hmmm...I'm still pondering the bit in a book I have just bought where they got to making their own cream cheese and their comment that they got 6oz of cream cheese "from an average pint of milk".. Now what would an "average" pint of milk be I wonder?

Sat there and thought "Must look up that supermarket comparison website and start trying to work out how much a pint of milk costs to work out how the economics side of that would be...." I also have problems buying organic cream cheese in my area - so it might be worth it for me to buy my usual organic milk and make my (organic) cream cheese from it....

At a vague guess - I would imagine that it works out quite a bit cheaper for anyone to make their own cream cheese - rather than buy it in (even assuming that local supermarkets stock cream cheese of ones choice).

Its not an exact recipe in the book I read this in and I would have to go away and work out whats missing from their "method" before I could have a go...so not worth repeating their "method" here....:(
