Sorry you're having a bad time with your dd <<hug>>
please don't get stressed about the social housing thing, it will be a long time before that affects you, if it ever does; another point of view though - after my dad died and we had all moved out, my mother was left in a rambling 3 bedroom house which she couldn't afford to heat and a huge garden she couldn't cope with; she asked to be moved and was offered a choice of a sheltered flat or a 2-bed house with garden; people aren't going to be turfed out onto the street, just into the right-sized housing for them

There's a definite chill in the air (as well as mental chill with the economic doom and gloom on both sides of the water). It was only 3.5 degrees on Tuesday morning when I left the house, and someone said it was 2 degrees a bit further inland!
We lit the fire for the first time properly on Tuesday night (I had lit a firelog one night, but we hadn't added anything to it - this was a proper, from scratch and lasting all night, with plenty of coal - type of fire to cosy up in front of). And I got my thermal vests out on Wednesday morning after freezing in here on Tues. I am thinking of lovely stews again though, and got the crockpot out on Sunday for a batch of stock (and to check it is still working right).
I am really feeling like a duvet day this week though - between the actual cold temperature, a medical cold and chesty cough, and worn out exhausted cold (from a manic fortnight of work), I think my body just wants to shut down. I am actually just reading and knitting most evenings recently, not even watching TV. Dh is even talking about a long cold winter, but we would be OK with that once it's reasonably dry (we can layer up fine - but it's ice and wet that really get to us). And DD has suddenly taken a liking to hot chocolate, which may be a good thing this year!GC 2010 €6,000/ €5,897

Ouch! hope that wasn't caused in any way by raspberries!
Hope you recover quickly.
No hunny the raspberries were planted well before I fell over outside the shed in the dark - a random paving stone tripped me up! Im just hoping my knee calms down quickly. Im always falling over and get very annoyed with myself. Have been invited to take part in an arthritis study next month and will get a snazzy leg brace to wear - sexy or what :rotfl: Hope its black so it goes with my goth gear.
Mardatha are you allowed pets in your house ??? My Dh would be last seen running for the hills if he thought there was a rat in the bedroom  We had a field mouse who used to come in and nick my veggie seeds from under the sink, he would sit there as if it were a bag of crisps, blatantly not running away till he had enough.
Anyway, Dgs has just arrived and Ds is going away for the weekend so its pretty busy here now. Ive got a list as long as your arm of things to do so am off to delegate - is there a smiley with its fingers crossed? Hugs to all who need it after yesterdays cuts, at least we are all doing our best and have somewhere to come and have a rantClearing the junk to travel light

O yes I'm allowed anything really. I'm the HA's furthest-away tenant and they very rarely see me
when they do its always the plumber and he's a biker and mad, so he gets on great with the RV. We do usually get a wee field mouse come in for a heat in winter, I nearly stepped on him one night when I got up for a drink of milk for my heartburn. Think he got the biggest shock LOL.
We emptied out the bedroom closet and found 2 mouse droppings but no mouse. So it cant have been coming for long. The plan is to lie in bed wide awake (hahaha) until we hear where it is and can pinpoint it.0 -

Don't worry, I've done that at least twice. I also get muddled because I am also following the 'tough' thread. One of the things I like about all these threads is that random observations don't seem out of place so you can get away with itIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -
()s hippeechiq. When you say applaud do you mean pressing the thanks button? Just asking because I do sometimes/often thank posts I don't necessarily agree with but that have made me see another side to something - or that have made me smile when I was feeling a bit down or some other reason that makes sense at the time(?) and not just because I've picked up some useful information - and I bet other people do too. I have even done it just to keep my place in a fast moving thread - and sometimes if I'm catching up on pages and pages I forget to thank when I should etc etc - so hope no one is reading too much into my thanks or lack of! Certainly didn't mean to upset anyone.Jan 2011 GC £300/£150.79 (2 adults, 2 teens, working dog, includes food/cleaning/toiletries)0

I have gone VERY far astray in my OS endeavours. Been tempted by eBay to buy rare and unusual plants, as I adore them so much. On Tuesday I had to increase my overdraft and yesterday the reality of what I was doing hit me with such a shock: I received 17 (SEVENTEEN!) packages of plants! Even the postman commented on that! I have got to get back on track, so I'm looking to you to help. Please offer me encouragement, ideas or even chastisement!
If you want rare & unusual plants in the OS style, try growing from seed. I've ordered from here before:

Oh, believe me I ALSO buy seeds! Been doing that for YEARS!Thank you, though. I already know about Trade Winds Fruit, they do have some amazing stuff, don't they? I'm a bit wary of buying from outside the EU, though, have you ever had problems with customs?
Thanks again. Now I'm off to check out my Watch List on eBay!0
