Lists are the best when you're laid up Mardatha, I'm forever hatching plans when I don't have the energy to do anything else. I really hope you're better soon, but in the meantime good luck planning world domination ... Old Style!

Speaking of hot water bottles I went looking for one the other day and I was shocked at the price in B00ts- €10 and it was tiny. Plus it was latex, not rubber (becaue of allergies I think) which felt a bit weird and plasticky to me. It didn't even have a cover but that wouldn't bother me if it was cheap as I could make one. So my search goes on. There are some microwavable ones on Ebay that look nice but they're not cheap either.
Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far! :)
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!

Right, for those of you who thought yesterday's challenge was far too easy, today's is much more challenging. Tell me what you think!

I just read some NY Times bestseller which was about an EMP attack (can't think what it was called now - obviously made a huge impression - ETA just realised it was called One Second After and it's referenced on the website I've provided a link to *d'oh*). Usual things about anarchy and patriotism and people dying in horrific conditions but astoundingly (seeing as it was set in a rural-ish community), no-one seemed to have much in the way of vegetables or "canned" food. Maybe yesterday's challenge showed why - once they get through their boxes of mac 'n' cheese, M/s Average American is perhaps a bit stymied?

I will stop generalising about an entire nation of doubtless charming people now...:rotfl:

So, no electricity, no car - no clocks except the wind-up kind. No back-up generators, phones, mobile phones, radios (unless you've got a ham radio), no water in your taps.

Yes, this is a bit of a tough one!!! Hopefully VERY unlikely but something to set you thinking how you'd manage if forced into really old style living :D

TY for posting the babysteps challenges- good idea for ROS !
If anybody wants to go further after these challenges then join a suvivalist group. The UK has some good ones... not so much plans for nuclear attack but more planning for floods/strikes/riots etc.

I think they're a bit too much for me. The idea of planning for a gang of thugs looting may be prudent but is beyond my preparedness threshold. I'll be happy if I keep a good stock of food in and have batch cooked enough meals for when I'm not well enough to cook. :D

  • I quite enjoyed today's challenge... didn't follow it at all, but I liked the way it made me think about stuff. Yes the scenarios were a bit OTT, but it did get me thinking of situations where we might have to leave the house with relatively short notice.

I've always had this poor excuse of an emergency bag, half filled with random stuff, not much use to anyone. So I made a proper list, and filled the bag things on the list. Luckily, most things I had spares of in the house, I just have a couple of things to buy tomorrow (matches, lighters, that sort of things) and I'll be pretty happy.

Also going to consolidate all our paperwork tonight so that they are in two folders, easier to pick up.

when OH came home for lunch, he must've thought I was packing my bags to leave him!!! :D

Sorry to hear you are having a bad day Mardatha, you just take it easy hunny and keep plotting! I make lots of lists but tend to lose them then find them after the event. I am getting better though by putting the shopping bags on the door handle and popping the shopping list in it :Tof course the extra points at MR T helps.

Hi mardatha, hope you're feeling better than earlier.

Do you have a link to any of the sites you mention? Don't like the American ones because they seem to spend most of their time advising you on the best places to store your arsenal ready for TEOTWAWKI and what plans you should make for heading off into the mountains - not really what I'm interested in, TBH. However, planning for strikes and floods (riots would be a bit difficult in our area as the population numbers about 40 in total :rotfl:) doesn't seem like a bad idea at all.

    I'll second that.

As you know - I can readily find loadsa useful links;):D - but that one has defeated me. I've only been able to find American ones - all ready meals and guns...
