Now, I know you ALL remember my telling you about the food storage site that posted occasional challenges to test how prepared you are...:D

Here is a link to Day One of the latest set of challenges. Seeing as we're talking about it anyway, just see if you think you could cope with the scenario they envisage.

Ooh, who says we aren't really old style ms? :rotfl:

Thanks. Duly saved and will go back for a good lookaround later:)

Just been to the health food shop and got the soya flour so I am off to make fishing bait in a bit - ooh exciting life I lead? Got a few other bits and bobs so stock cupboard is bursting now ans I feel quite happy about it. Nipped to Mr T's last night and treated myself to a bouquet(was 10 quid now 2) and an orchid )for a pound) bonus was the bouquet was wrapped in silver organza and a huge piece to boot so that will make gift bags for Xmas. Its nice to have such luxury.

Have got a day of peace tomorrow so am going to do more sorting out and organising. Must resist the urge to sit and make baby clothes for my niece, babys not due till January so need to get winter sorted first

Continuing the food prep challenges: today's one is here

This would be difficult for most Americans, I would suggest, but easier for us lot. We should breeze through this! If you've ever been on an American recipe site, you'll know they don't seem to have "raw" ingredients - only lots of prepackaged stuff

Hands up who looked at this and thought, pfft, piece of cake! (Talking of which, that would make a nice dessert...)
  • *hands up*

I think most of us on this board wouldn't batter an eye lid!

Done that one today with out even knowing about the challenge, except my yeast is dried, but it keeps longer ;) and I can smell the bread rolls and butternut squash and red pepper soup as I type, must be ready as I'm hungry:D
I got stuck reading that forum yesterday for hours, very interesting site.

I find it quite sad that cooking from scratch and baking a loaf of bread would apparently be a "challenge" to many Americans!

I know exactly what you mean about prepackaged stuff on American recipe sites... whatever would they do without their canned cream soups ;)

And ever notice how much SUGAR is in American recipes, even savoury dishes? Like 3/4 cup sugar in a sweet & sour sauce, or 1/2 cup sugar in a salad.
R.I.P. Bart. The best cat there ever was.
  • I made bread for the first time in about 15 years today, absolutely loved doing it. 6 buns with ham, cheese and herbs, and 8 cinammon rolls... they're all gone now... ohhhh noooo, I'll have to make some more tomorrow.... (what a shame) ;)
  • I think one reason there's a lot of packaged goods, mixes and things is because with their great coupons this type of big brand stuff is often close to free if their shop does double or triple coupons, so I can see how it happens. I know people who spend the best part of a Sunday clipping coupons and looking for rebates and great sales.

Not saying it's what I do but that's why lots of stockpilers in the US have this type of thing.
