I keep meaning to send for some comfrey seeds, no one I know has a plant so i can't nick a bit - sorry borrow some!
Ginny, I don't think you want the kind that sets seed unless you want it all round your garden!:) Is there an organic gardening group anywhere near you you could get some root from? If you don't mind spending money you can get root offcuts from Garden Organic's catalogue.
Really pleased about DDs house - will be good to have your own space back but still have her nearby.
ETA _ and that's two parsnips more than I've managed - don't know what happened this year - possibly old seed as I save seeds from year to year - should have done a germination test!Jan 2011 GC £300/£150.79 (2 adults, 2 teens, working dog, includes food/cleaning/toiletries)0 -
Thanks seasalt for putting me right there - we would be over run with comfrey
I sometimes get coffee grounds from S*arbucks Dh used to say it would make the bugs eat the waste faster as they were hyped up on Coffee:rotfl:
Had a few worried moments as there was a !!!! up on Dds house but all ok now - my nerves cannot take it, she signs on Tuesday so you will see a news report of a mad woman doing laps round Manchester cheering :TClearing the junk to travel light

Great news Ginny,:j did she get a place near you?Winged_one wrote: »Do you have any coffee shops or tea rooms near you? Would they give you the tea leaves/bags and coffee grounds? I often get coffee grounds for free from a couple of coffee shops locally (not so much this year, but S*arbucks generally do them, and I know Fall*on & B*rne also offer them, in case NualaBuala wants a source!) and they are great for adding into compost bins (we also have our own from home) and as a slug deterrant or general soil conditioner added straight on.Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far!
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!

Thanks guys, Dd will be about 15 minutes walk ( past the resevoirs and park land) or 5 mins by car. And she is determined to be totally O/S ...Im soo proud :rotfl:
Told Sil that today we had to eat totally from whats in the house, as he is a bu**er for nipping out for missing ingredients. I thought as a chef he would rise to the occasion but as we have all been up since 6, baby is teething and our stress levels thanks to various landlords are way high, he did chicken burgers (bought ones) and chips but I did dig up the spuds:T oh and baked beans. mind you it was manna from heaven!Clearing the junk to travel light

I do have cherry tree in a pot, got 10 cherries this year! they were lovely, also lots of mange tout, lettuce, onions and wild strawberries all in pots. Would be nice to be more self sufficient. Still drinking my foraged elderflower cordial though.
Love this thread and the support for each other on it, but please can someone tell me how to bookmark where I've read up to. It takes me a good ten minutes to find where I last read. Stayed up till one the other night so I could get to the end, didn't manage to. Plus us pregnant ladies need our sleep. Glad you liked the pink sheep photo Mardatha.
I'd love to know more about your cherry tree - I'd like to have pots with fruit trees on my yard and I'd particularly like a cherry but I didn't think cherries came in a small variety. What variety is your tree, how long have you had it, where did you get it from, how old when you got it, how big is the pot (height and diameter)? (Sorry about all the questions - I just want to know everything you can tell me
Jill
PS Just seen your question. What I do is just add it to my favourites from the page that I've read up to. It's then right at the bottom of my Fav. list and easy to see and click on next time I'm online.
PPS Well I see you've already had several answers - all of them better solutions than mine. I'll be changing my own ways now - so thank you for asking.0 -

Would you kindly tell me how you make the tomato ketchup as i have loads of toms to use. Thanks0 -
I have also been keeping my place by saving the most recent page as a favourite, but I tried using the last unread post approach. But that only works if you go to the thread through the front page of the forum or through subscribed threads. Otherwise it either doesn't update or sometimes, for no apparent reason, it skips past some unread posts. On balance I think I will stick with adding the current page to favourites as that is the quickest way to find a thread that isn't necessarily on the front page of the forum. Although this one and the 'tough' thread are usually near the top, there are some other threads I follow that aren't on OS(eg MemoryGirl is in debt free diaries) and by using favourites I can keep up with them all quite quickly.
It's what works for you reallyIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -
