Still here Beanie - just too embarassed to post much. I'm not trying AT ALL and getting fatter and fatter. Should I start a gaining weight thread?

Sary - I think losing a parent is a tricky time no matter what your relationship has been ..... I'm not a great funeral attender myself but I do think that you should set aside a bit of time to think through your mixed emotions. I suppose for some people attending a funeral gives them that space/experience.

Vix - maybe Beyonce should be going on the Vix diet - you look great in your photos.

    BB - any inprovement yet?

Hello Schrodinger's Cat! You'll find lots of successful losers on here and plenty of support. BTW, are you related to Heisenberg's uncertainty principle?

Get well vibes to all the poorly peeps.

Lots of big hugs for those who need them this week. Seems to be a tough weekend/start of the week for everyone.

My appetite has came back with a vengeance. Even had some pringles and oreos. Big mistake buying them for the packed lunch boxes. Don't suppose it will do me any harm after the couple of days of not eating very much. Scales are still playing up, so will need to guestimate on the way they are running heavier than they should be. Can usually get a good comparison at work, but as i'm off sick I can't do that. But can check against the wee man's weight on my scales too. Sounds daft, but his weight seems to be regular, so will know whether scales are working or not :rotfl:

Sary - that's sad news. I guess there'll be some people in your family that think you should be there and others that think that you shouldn't. Try not to be pressured too much by either and just make the decision for yourself. Take care and hopefully no regrets :-)
Bindiboo and Neilersmc - well done they're both fab losses:T
BettyB - until you're in the right frame of mind it's gonna be tough, so for now dont think too much about the food, try and get yourself back in the zone first, and only then (however long that list of food really was) draw a line under it, have a new start and just take it day by day, but as for quitting, well that's just silly talk!!

the good thing about guestimating is that thousands of calories just don't need to count at all!
Strongers Cat - Hi and welcome to a very friendly thread! There are quite a few sets of scales in Argos that go up to 28st and a couple that go to 31st6 or if you happen to own two sets, but neither of which go up as much as you need, then simply put them side by side, get one foot on each, then add up the readings (which both should be the same). 6 stone to lose might look like a lot at this stage but the thing we all have in common is that we have to take it day by day, whether trying to lose half a stone or twenty stone :-)
1500 cals seems pretty low for a bloke of your size? Have you tried this diet plan before and are you comfortable with it?
And if it makes you feel any better, you're not the heaviest person on here by a long way.
    ----
Maple syrup diet: i remember one episode of supersize vs superskinny had a section about being on that diet. May as well just eat a big bag of sweets every day instead for all the good it will do ya
    ----
Only 8lbs to go Cassandradance well done, you can almost see the finishing line!
And you are more than welcome to jump on the thread whenever you like, i think it's just like being on a giant trampoline, :j so come bounce around a bit,the more the merrier: theres plenty of ups and downs that we share together, there's laughter, the occasional bruise and if you hit rock bottom, then the rest of us will try help you bounce right back up again :-)

I've googled the Beyonce diet and its a detox of nothing but some expensive sort of maple syrup and cayenne pepper

Cue eric and the words: "snake oil"!! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

    why thank you

detoxing is a scam i am afraid, in that your body detox's itself naturally, you do not need any magic supplement to do it.

however you do need to make sure you stop eating all the stuff that is "poisoning" you, all the processed food with its chemical soup additives, caffeine, alcohol, refined sugars, choccy!, salt etc

this is a fundamental part of my system where you clean out your system and break addictions and start to bring your insulin under control.

OMG.....I shudder to even mention how much weight I need to lose. And the worst thing is.......it creeps up on you so slowly that it's not till you step on the scales one day and they don't go above XX stone that it finally sinks in. Then you recall your friends taking the mickey ( quite jovially ) of your overweightness on holiday videos 4 years ago when you were 2 stone less.

Oh well......I'm doing my best with a 1500 calorie a day thing.

    I'm male....6 foot 2....and 19 STONE. That's about 6 stone overweight.

your a lightweight compared to some of us :D very light weight :o I have lost 10 stone and Im still much heavier than you :)

as for your goal weight, depends on your frame and muscle mass, Im 6' 2" and i used to float about the 18 stone mark with about 15% body fat when I was training last time, depends if your a bean pole or power house type person. (13 stone would put you in the very skinny thin side of things)

you do need to be careful about how much you eat, if you eat too little (and 1500 is very low for someone your size) you will start to consume your own lean muscle mass (and potentially your organs) and you will slow your metabolic rate down. If you do reduce your lean mass you will need even less calories per day.

how to stop yourself consuming lean muscle mass, don't try to rush it aim for a healthy loss of 2lbs a week, calculate your BMR, add the energy you expend on training and then subtract 250-500 cals a day.

eat some lean protein with every meal (i put a protein shake on my cereal in the morning, low GI oatibix) it helps reduce muscle consumption and is an appetite suppressant

most importantly build some resistance training into your week, 2-3 30 min sessions minimum, the more muscle you have the higher your BMR the more cals you will burn just by existing.

Well an interesting unintended experiment yesterday

as I may have mentioned I am trying to get my food bill down as I have been eating a lot of very expensive lean protein. So far we have reduced it by £70 a week !! by swapping to lean pork medallion, basics salmon (tastes the same as normal salmon :)) and getting the fresh tuna steak off cuts, all of which work out at £2 a less for about 200g of lean protein per meal :jOh and the creation of the protibix for breakfast has saved me £25 a week as well

I thought I would try some cheaper soups for lunch as opposed to my expensive tuna (£1.25 a tin :( but its very good quality and 140g drained :))

So I had a big soup on sunday for lunch and from that point on I was super mega thirsty, I drank 3 times what I would normally (and i drink 3l+ a day anyway), Yesterday I had lost no weight and I had horrid IBS (first time in months) and felt crap and bloated all day.

I decided this morning to weigh myself again (and break my most cardinal rule) as I was feeling so crap yesterday and lo and behold i dropped 3lbs in one day!!!

So it just goes to show my body hates processed food with all its additives, preservatives and huge amounts of salt ....

    never again :(
