Well done DD!
Miggy, I may have said this before but you can bank out of date cheques. The 6 months limit thing is to try and get them in to the system quickly and so that it makes Bank rec's easier for business's. But you may have tried already......in which case, ignore me!
If you want a hand with a basic letter give me a shout.:j Proud Member of Mike's Mob :j0 -

I would never ignore you, Maty!
Yes, I've tried with one of the cheques and was refused. It may just be that member of staff of course. These cheques are well out of date - between two and ten years! I don't think the older ones are going to be sorted - though I may try them once I've got the more recent ones done - but I know I need to get my head round the letter and I'd be grateful for help!Pretty please - and thank you for the offer!
Letter so far:
Dear X,
I am writing on behalf of XXXXX to ask if you would kindly reissue the enclosed cheques which she has hitherto been unable to deal with due to declining health.
Yours faithfully...
How much detail? Do I mention the Power of Attorney? Do I ask that they be reissued as a single cheque (where there are multiple cheques from one company) to avoid the reissuing charges which in some cases come to more than the cheques itself? I could see if they would do this out of the kindness of their hearts!
There must be a way - I'm bogged down in detail.Miggy

I'm soooooo tired I've been asleep! I've been on the go and didn't realise till after that it's all been 'Mum' stuff, yet I've not tackled any more of the list!
I am fed up of having several carrier bags of files for her affairs cluttering up the dining room (and more stuff in the bedroom - and I'm enough of a clutterbug already!) I decided to get a filing cabinet but as I can't afford a new one I've asked on Freecycle (no luck), and today tried a local 2nd hand furniture place (ditto) then had a look round the auction. This was all quite fun, don't get me wrong, it's just tiring. There were a few filing cabinets but the sunny weather brought out all the punters and my bid for one that looked ideal didn't get anywhere.
I then popped round to get myself some lunch (90p) and a couple of bits for Mum, ate on the way to hers and spent about two and a half hours just keeping her company, which was pleasant but of course notihing else got done. I did offer to take her out but that seems to be outside her comfort zone for now.
Home via supermarket and £2.29 on a couple of pizzas which Dh kindly cooked.Miggy

Was going to pm you but your inbox is full
I didn't realise the cheques were quite that old!
Any way, I think you have made a great start on the letter. I would have done something very similar.
Dear xxxx
Re: Your cheque number xxxx, for £xx.xx, issued on xx/xx/xx
Please find enclosed above mentioned cheque issued to my Mother, Mrs xxxxxx, by yourselves. This came to light when we were getting her affairs in order prior to a move to a Nursing Home.
As this has never been cashed, and the banking system will not accept it because it is out of date, we would be very grateful if you could re-issue it.
Should you require any further information or proof of ID for my mother or myself please do not hesitate to contact me.
Your faithfully
Miggy
On behalf of Mrs xxxxxxx
Hope this helps!
Looking forward to seeing you at the picnic
Maty

Oh thank you Maty! That's a great letter, and I think I have all the cheques - bar a couple that came to light later and I have to think where I put them.
I don't think I'm going to make it to the picnic, sorry. Butti found some really good fares from our area but it's in between our holiday and a trip to see FIL for his birthday so I'm reluctant to spend time and money around then - especially as I tend to work weekends and have taken two off in four weeks. I will of course think of you all.
Mum's to do list: I've paid the cleaner. I was going to do the money graph but I fell asleep.Tomorrow is another day.
Oh, and sorry about the inbox - I think it needs a bathplug I could pull or an overflow outlet... if you don't mind I'll sort it tomorrow and get some sleep now. I know I could just delete all but there are some I want to keep.Miggy

ThanksShould also have said, if they are to large company's I would send FAO The Cashier, or maybe the Finance Director.

I'm sure the picnic will be a lot of fun and I hope for a blow-by-blow account especially the latest on The Dolls' House!
Yes to Finance Director/Cashier - will see what I can find through websites. Thanks.
Today: a day off! Well, not really as I'm working tonight but DH has a day off and I'm not in work most of the time so it feels like it. At the moment there is still money in this week's food budget too, though lots of other spends this week. I'm annoyed with myself for buying a magazine for Mum and forgetting I'd already ordered it so she pays twice. Mind you, I wouldn't have bought it if the ordered one had turned up (I decided I hadn't ordered it then found the careful reminder to myself of the order). So yet another thing to follow up.
For fun we went out to the car boot sale this morning and for once DH bought something: a tiny occasional table which he reckons is very old. I have no idea what's going to be done with it but it's not taking up much room and is quite nice looking so I'm okay with that. I resisted buying books and clothes but got some kitchen wares (I love old kitchen stuff) and plants. Do vegetable plants come from the gardening budget or the food budget? Maybe I won't decide until I see if I get a crop!
Steamer insert for saucepan - £1
Little mandolin-type slicer - 50p
cast iron skillet - £1 (I know! So pleased!)
Plants at 50p each:
2 courgettes
cucumber
chocolate mint
aubergine
pot of 22 tiny leeks
No pretty flowers! I am determined to grow SOME of what we eat this year - aside from the blackberries, currants and greengages which grow themselves.
One other MS thing: trimmed and coloured my hair, saving £59 approx - but as usual I'm not looking at it too closely as I'm not brilliant at it!Miggy

Hello, just found your dairy and thought I'd drop in and say hello.
My OH recently cut my hair for the first time. Slightly scary but saved £25 and I haven't had to wear a hat :rotfl:0 -
Hi and welcome! Pull up a chair, kettle's on. (Tea, coffee or calamine - I get that specially for Ani.
)
With the weather as it is, I think I'll get beers in.
Gorgeous day today, even if I had to sleep through half of it. However on my way home this morning I went to the till and got Mum's card sorted out! :T:T:T Then this afternoon we went on a walk through the woods and found a new and idyllic footpath nearby, and having explored it got to paddle in the river too.
What a beautiful day.Miggy

Another nice day, and again I slept through half of it! Did you know it was absolutely stunning at five o'clock this morning? The sun has taken to doing a dazzling orange golden glow through the front door at work as soon as it gets up - by then there has been perhaps an hour and a half of daylight, birds singing, trees making lovely silhouettes and generally you would think the day had started... but when the sun comes - wow! Amazing. I hung the washing out - tee shirt weather even at that hour.
So, when I got home I slept and when I woke up I checked the phone (I've learnt to turn it off after a night shift or I am leaping out of bed thinking mum's in trouble when it's some sales call and I have to say - grumpily - that we're on the telephone preference service and aren't supposed to recieve sales calls). Message from my line manager to ask if I could take on an extra shift, which I've agreed to so I'll be working Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights this week. Another £70 - yay! I have also cancelled this week's piano lesson as all the night shifts mean I'm way behind on practice and it takes me a few days to get my head right enough to play decently. So £10 to spare - do I put it in the holiday fund as I ought to or splurge on ingredients?!:D
This evening we walked someone's dog and went shopping: I think we did quite well. Just over £11 and fairly sensible. I also made a hotpot to use up the gammon from the weekend and had so much that I've made another to go in the freezer and there's a spare portion in the fridge. :T Not wanting to run the oven for just one item (which is what normally happens) I made a batch of muffins, which may help towards lunches and midnight snacks.
And now - to bed. Need to sleep as I won't get all that much over the next few days.Miggy
