There is one church we went to over Christmas that, more or less' fitted the bill, but it's in another town, 30 mins drive away.
I'm probably too picky but I was brought up in a certain church with a certain style and I guess I want that back again. Either the clergy are too 'whatever' and not disciplined enough or the service is too 'high' and I feel excluded.
I know that in the great spirit of things (heh) I'm sure God doesn't mind how I worship, but I'm afraid I do...Our LBM: Dec 2011. DMP started: Jan 2012. Debt at LBM: £41,568

I can see your point Rose...
There's a good station (well I think it's good) that I listen to online run from a shed in New York State called Redeemer Broadcasting...google it
It has services (4pm Sundays) and a nice mix of preaching (average 30 mins) and hymns and instrumental music. Lovely folk that run it....She homeschooled all her 4 kids and now works so hubby can run the station. Run on a shoe string but lovely lovely peeps. Not happy clappy like UCB and premier
Hope that helps hun...

rose i'm exactly like you, want somewhere where i feel comfortable to attend and neither high church or happy clappy fit the bill. i also sometimes feel i need the space to slowly integrate into the church rather than be pounced on by very well meaning people the minute i walk thorugh the door, i guess you could say i'm not very confident in my own ability to have or know my faith despite having been confirmed (it makes sense when i say it in my head anyway), because i've been out of that environment for so long.0

Yes, I think that's it exactly.
All the time I was growing up I had my own church, knew all the people and the clergy very well.
Since being a 'grown up' and moving away, I've yet to find that again - it's more than just style of service, it's everything all mushed up into one big thing.
Mr BR doesn't quite understand it, being a secular soul. He comes with me to church when I go (Easter & Christmas only, atm) and is happy to do so, but doesn't 'get' when i have such an issue. Our LBM: Dec 2011. DMP started: Jan 2012. Debt at LBM: £41,568

I think there's a cultural element isn't there? I'm happiest in the environment which is most like where I grew up though as a teen/student I went to various places which has widened the spectrum for me - but I still veer towards things that are familiar. Well, we do, don't we? Even to the extent that some people chose the same things even when they aren't good for them (pass me the chocolate someone).
In my case it's quite funny because I went to an older style free evangelical church as a kid - and our present church has similar tendencies but is more 'clappy'. However, when they start one of the great old evangelical favourites ('Blessed Assurance', 'Amazing Grace' and the like), and the teens are just learning the words, I'm singing away like a good 'un with the seniorsDH is from a different tradition and is having to learn too.
In between times I've spent many years on the Church of England - but I've moved a lot and have belonged elsewhere too.
Erme - I wonder if UCB records their morning slot? I just had a look on their website and there are some 'listen again's but I wouldn't know what to look for. Over the next few days I'm very likely to be asleep at 8.30 out of necessity (working nights) so if it's on soon, I'll miss it.Miggy

Thanks Erme.
Bleach? Would you like to do my kitchen while you're at it?
DD and DS2 are neither of them very happy with their exam marks...We seem to have got over the worst of it for now though. Every single one of our kids is away for at least part of the coming weekend and I'm working every night. I wonder if this is the shape of things to come?
I went to see Mum, by the way, and they've had another case of the lurgy so I didn't go in, just left some things with the staff for her. It's been over a week since I've seen her, which is a bit strange after twice-weekly visits for the last year and a bit. I also saved some money on dinner because I saw casserole steak marked down - saving I think 62p which I'll add to my signature in a minute then I'm off to work.Miggy
