Thank you Erme.
Meringues sounds yummy. I think I'm the only person here who really likes them, but they make me want to laugh because I remember an old cine film of my Dad exploding with laughter while trying to eat a meringue. It didn't do the meringue much good but it made an entertaining film.
Getting to work - both DH and I are currently in walking distance from our respective places of work though it's quicker obviously by bike or car. However, DH needs the car for work quite often (gets paid mileage). The difficulty will be increased mileage if he doesn't get a local post. You are right, though, there is a bus though if he got that post we would have to look into running times. Cycling is a possibility in good weather but would take quite a long time - again one to look into though.Miggy

The story of today:
A training day at work this morning followed by three hours at work this afternoon: quite useful because it's helped my confidence in a particular area I'd highlighted as one I wanted to work on. Nothing dramatic though.
After work I accompanied DD to her Parent Consultation at school - as she's eighteen this was mostly about her talking with the tutors but they were encouraging.
I went shopping - went out of my way to get to Mr A and saved £4.75 on shopping which is gratifying. I had had ambitions to eat out of the freezer but DH is miserable with a cold and impending interview and had mentioned he wanted something comfortingly meaty.Spag Bol it was for tea then, and a hilarious game of drawing each other afterwards. We have some budding creative talent but my picture of DS2 looks far too old and strangely elongated, and b/f's pic of DD looks somewhere between Mayan art and Picasso. As my Mum would say, little things please little minds.
I also investigated a box under the stairs and found four more catering bags of bread mix! I hope they're all right. I will be upset with myself if I can't use them - and rather pleased if I can because the granary bread was particularly nice.
Tired... need bed... catch up tomorrow.Miggy

Well despite DD's lovely tutor reminding her about not missing assembly, DD is still in bed. I decided that wasn't on and did my piano practice
but she's still there!
Today I'll have another look for that card reader... must be somewhere. I'll also go down to the market in search of food bargains, solemnly repeating as I do so 'Junk food is not food, junk food is not food'. I have a theory, you see, that most of what's sold to us as food is empty calories and therefore not 'food'. Of course there are holes in that theory but it helps me keep away from the stuff that won't do me any good. Not always, but enough to make a difference to my calorie intake!
I also want to make some more bread. Getting a yen to have another bread maker but I've nowhere to keep it.
I need to look into my work's discount scheme - boring but MS - and put together the recipe in a jar that I've been avoiding for the last week.
I could also (finally) have a go with my pasta maker - but why does the price of eggs go up just as I finally get one?! (Though I know that's to do with new regulations about the welfare of chickens so I don't begrudge it - in fact I would like some chickens if I could get a coop).Miggy

Just spent £2.81 on Amazon and I blame Martin Lewis for providing a link through this site...
Not really. He didn't exactly turn on 1-click ordering for me, did he?Miggy

Your no choc in Lent total is growing, Rose!
Bookwise - an Alvin Hall book on shares as Mum has shares and I haven't a clue what to do with them.
Shopping - we don't have an AldiI did treat myself to my cappuccino sachets which are half price in Mr A (which was where I got all yesterday's shopping apart from a packet of biscuits that I succumbed to on the way back from work). I got all the bits for the bolognese (sauce was £1 cheaper), some fresh fruit for £1, DH's favourite tinned fruit which is cheaper there, garlic bread which is about half the price of Mr T for the one I got... um I can't remember the rest, which is salutary. I think that's the word? I mean to say if I can't remember it a day later did I need it at the time?
I really haven't got a huge amount done yet - at least not off my list. Instead I've put three plants in bigger pots and cleaned out the dishwasher. Ugh. Despite having virtually dismantled it to get the gunk out and now put it on a hot wash, I think I need to get some of the 'proper' fluid to clean it. My efforts just aren't getting there - I'm subbed to the dishwasher cleaning thread too so you would expect that to have given me the skills (by osmosis if necessary), but I'm not winning.Miggy

I don;t use a sauce for my spag bol.
I use mince, an oxo cube), *that much* water, mushrooms, onion, tin of toms with herbs and a sachet of asda's own simmer soup (minestrone)Our LBM: Dec 2011. DMP started: Jan 2012. Debt at LBM: £41,568
Oct 2012 = Current debt: £40,548.93

I added some onion, red pepper and celery to the shop-bought sauce Rose, but I hadn't thought of adding a soup mix. It would have been lighter to carry too (my friend saw me with the shopping and felt sorry for me so I got a lift home though I did explain to her that it was more bulk than weight).
I add *that much* water too - use it to swoosh round the jar that held the sauce so I get as much out as I can (OS MSE strikes again) and it helps the sauce not to get too thick.
How are you faring today? I'm a bit concerned when anyone's on here nearly as long as I am but hasn't updated their own diary (i.e. they are not just procrastinating as I am). I know you've had a tough time recently though so I hope you can get some rest.
In the meantime pleased have some of these virtual cupcakes with me - they are very nice and it's just as well I haven't got through them all yet - and I'll put the kettle on. Tea or coffee?Miggy
