I went about 1.30... in other words not brilliant!I'm a late-night person anyway and working nights just reinforces this.

Got up late, DH on day off so he got things done bless him :), managed to get the dishwasher and washing machine on (having got through most of the backlog of washing yesterday, someone dumped a ton more in the laundry basket overnight), had a nice lunch with DH (bless him again: he knew I was in a rush and so instead of lunch out which he wanted, he treated us to M&S food: plaice followed by cherry pie - nom!)... Visited Mum very briefly: she seems fine but says she's feeling a bit under the weather so I asked staff to keep an eye on her. Hurried off to work, which I wasn't looking forward to but turned out better than I expected. I had asked to get back into some duties I hadn't been doing for a while and it turned out this was the first day but everything was quiet, almost too quiet, which made it easier. I also saw my line manager who had a suggestion for my NVQ so I have that to bring in tomorrow.

This was supposed to be an NSD but I went to look for whoopsied treats after work and bumped into DH in the supermarket... ended up spending on fruit, bread, milk and chocolate. Can't get my favourite cappuccinos at the moment - this is my fourth day without - that saves a few pennies. :D

I'm going to type up today's shift for the NVQ which I know is going to mean I'm up late and won't wind down as well but I've had a hot bath which helps me stay warm and that in turn helps sleep, and I made plenty of notes so I won't have to spend a lot of time remembering.

    Here goes. :)

Went to bed at 2.30 last night, having finished the write-up. :o Got it printed at work today and handed it to the colleague who is reading it through to verify it's what I actually did.

I had a phone call from DD, very upset because she found out with a week to go that she was missing a chunk of stuff she was supposed to be revising for an exam. When I started sounding off to a colleague about the way DD's teacher was handling it (not constructive), she arranged for cover so I've come home to help DD. Good job we have similar aptitude for the subject! DD is now home but has decided to have a rest which sounds sensible to me - she's been pushing herself quite hard.

NSD so far, and I have thrown out some papers and put the washing machine on so things are happening. I will earn about £30 less than I would have, had I done the full shift but you've only got it when you've got it, IYSWIM, so I'm not worrying about that. More important to be there for DD and help her sort this out. She now has the material she needs to tackle and I'll have a preview while she's resting so at least I have a starting point to talk to her about it.

By the way, I am so impressed with how my colleagues rallied round to cover the shift... makes me feel quite different about work even if I know there are still things that upset me about it.

i'm glad your work collegues have helped you out. i feel that at my place i've been doing the rallying around of late and nobody bothers to return the favour, and often i don't feel that it's even appreciated.

Sorry it's not going so well atm LT. I texted the colleagues who'd helped last night and got a reply back from each of them - all completely different and all nice. :) It really cheered me up. Just goes to show something about a crisis putting things in perspective and taking our monds off the minor grumps that people otherwise can focus on...

So have I got today off to a roaring start? Nooooo. Slept okay but am tired, but then I have catching up to do. I have managed to paste some mementoes into my scrapbook which was nice and also saves me from a few of the multitudinous pieces of paper that are threatening to take over. I also threw out some paper clutter last night which is a very satisfying feeling!

I don't do fancy scrapbooks so it's a very low-cost activity, just programmes, tickets, press cuttings, that sort of thing to remind me of nice stuff.
