This is an honest question (before anyone has a go at me). Can anyone tell me how many months now the Halifax Index has fallen. Is it 3?

    So you predict no falls?

Maybe it needs to be put in bold and larger fonts.
I'll even add a bit of colour;)
Many of us had expected 2010 to be a stagnant year.
With price rises in the first half of the year there needs to be price falls in order for it to be stagnant.

Many of us thought there would be falls over the winter period which never materialised.

We've just passed a period of caution due to the election and the emergency budget.

All of this has been iterated time and time again.
    It's not new news.

If you guys want to extrapolate a couple of months of small falls given all of the context above into the next wave, then that's up to you.

time will tell if your hope will come to fruition

    A fall is it?

I havent read this thread but I predict that it contains:

    a) some feisty bear action.
    b) Abuse of Graham
    c) An absence of significant Hamish.

    Amirite?

I'm not making any predictions, except in a personal sense. As in not rushing to buy. I expect prices to continue falling for a bit.

Ah, so you've dropped the "I'm not buying a house because I can't afford one" and we're back to "I'm not buying because I'm too savvy". As I predicted yesterday I believe!

100% correct in my predictions, carolt. :rotfl::rotfl:

I would think another fall next month and realist bear will start talking about Great Crash 2 again. Or would that be Great Crash 2.5 now?

The Halifax price index has fallen for the last 3 months consecutively, for 4 of the past 5 months and 5 of the last 13 months (link - see page 3).

Bear in mind the figures are seasonally adjusted so that they don't get skewed by a 'spring bounce' or Christmas. Also, the year-on-year comparison compares the average house price over a three month period a year ago with the average house price over the last 3 months. Both of these are done to smooth out the numbers and make them less 'noisy'. This is a good thing IMO as although it reduces precision it does allow for easier comparison over time.

Just how long do you think you can go without posting a random pointless personal insult aimed at me?

    Go on. I dare you.

I bet you can't last one day.

    Prove me wrong.

RPI inflation is 2.6% since the start of the year so 2% down since january in nominal terms is a significant drop.
I wouldn't associate rpi with house prices, surely the relevant data would be what wages in/deflation are doing.

How long can you go without posting pointless remarks to try and cause an argument so you can then stand back and go "Oh, look everyone I'm being abused. This is aginst my civil rights! Look at me, look at me, oh for the love of God, loooookkkkk aaaaatttttt mmmmeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!".

    Go on, I dare you.

    I bet you can't last 10 mins.
