Gym Locker Broken Into - Esporta Croydon
Comments

At that time i found it ironic that the Esporta gym where the membership is a bit hefty £55+ pm had thieves galore and if you left anything lying about it was gone.
Yet i moved to a budget Fitness First Express, £23pm, and had not seen or heard of a single incident in the 3 years i been there.0 -
That's exactly what baffled me, I thought it being a premium gym would have avoided incidents like this. You would wonder why people paying £60+ per month would want to steal £7.60 off a credit card. Another reason to suspect staff members as they are on very low salaries.0

Why does the word Esporta come up red when I type it?0

do you not have legal cover with your home insurance? might be worth seeing if a solicter could give you some advice to see if you can get the value of the items back from the gym??Life is like a box of chocolates........

Thanks - I'll have a look at my Endsleigh Home Insurance documents - is this normal to have legal cover in home insurance, they only insure contents that is inside my home.0

I think this is quite common - I heard of a spate of similar incidents local to me (though not in Esporta as there is not one that close)
Also, someone in a lock shop told me that a lot of the normal combination padlocks are easy to pick - there is some sort of tool that you can press down on them that makes them open. This made me a bit wary so I tend to use key locks rather than combination.
I imagine it is not staff but rather day visitors on guest passes or regular members - I should think that within the crimanl fraternity this sort of masterkey is easy to get hold of. TBH I would never leave anything of great value in a gym locker no matter how secured. My gym has a safe and I would use this for certain items or if I had a lot of cash.0 -

Think about it from a crooks point of view. Which gym is more likely to have wealthier members - and therefore more to steal? The one charging a nominal fee or the one charging a extortionate fee?
Those with money to waste are more likely to have designer gear, gadgets, spare cash, good credit limits etc
and yes, it is quite worrying i can think like a crook You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
Dont forget you can get yourseason card replaced if a monthly or above0

I think you are jumping to conclusions with it being an inside job.
Show me a gym or school locker with integral lock, and I can show you how to get into it in under 2 minutes without leaving any outwardly visible marks. With practice you can be looking at 10s to get in.
Putting your own lock on makes little to no difference. The small combination padlocks can often be opened just using touch in a minute, and normal padlocks of that size can be shimmed open in seconds.
Really, the only solution is not to take valuables to a gym.0
