Gonna skew your average now ..... I'm 19 in six weeks.

LBM - March 05 - realised I could get Mum's credit cards paid off when she took out a loan because there was a bit left over. We had £2k from the loan to pay off £4k of CCs and yet, we are getting there! Debt Free Date for CCs - August 07 :j (Sooner if Quidco etc keeps working :) )

  • I'm 23 but 24 in Nov. I really want to be shot of this by the time I'm 30, big loan should be paid off in 4 years and am hoping to start making overpayments to bring it closer, the car loan is for 5 years and was only taken out this year, I hate to think that thats round my neck for the next 5 years but its a lesson learned and I will never rely on credit for wants again !

  • Hi

I'm 31. I don't have any debts - unfortunately not even a mortgage but that's a different story... (apart from my student loan, but I don't consider that to be a real 'debt', it's my 'Higher Education Tax'). I'm fanatically paranoid about incurring any debt at all and my current favourite pasttime is budgeting (and rebudgeting) and money saving much to the annoyance of my OH.

My OH, does have some debt. I don't know how much. I don't think it's much (couple of grand at most - but then I don't know because he denies having any. He had a fair bit a couple of years ago but paid most of it off.), my concern is that he is very much head in sand and whilst on the surface he's very much into my money saving activities, I'm a little concerned that his CCs get a little too much exercise when he's on his lunch break and wandering around the shops.

I've tried encouraging him to visit this site and my dad bought him Martin's Money Diet book, but will he read it? Nope. Like I said, head in the sand.

Anyway. This is my first post, so hi! i've been lurking around the forums for a while, so I thought it was time I registered and got involved.
  • I'm 28 and aim to be out of debt if I works my socks of by the time i'm 29. 1st August to be precise!

  • I'm 42 and after reading the other posts I feel really old, but I don't look it and I don't feel it so there!

It's really sad that it has taken me so long to wise up. I was given my first credit card at 19 when I was a student and I thought, I've got money to spend, and I did spend it. Not realising that it wasn't my money!

But better late than never. I have finally learnt my lesson in time to avoid an impoverished old age. No, it's better than that, I am only half way through my life and I am going to be a lot richer in the second half!

Lightbulb started flickering when 27 then started shining brightly last year.... :p
