Im sure I read somewhere that severe mental impairment / disorder can qualify as well for mobility but this has to be severe to qualify my partner has schizophrenia and gets middle care dla (although in my opinion should be high rate as hes at it all night as well but couldnt be mithered going through the appeal process) and low mobility (as he is classed as danger to himself/others etc) and his psychiatrist actually said to appeal both of these as in their opinion it should be higher rate for both and he would back it so i did look into it on the net but quite frankly in the end couldnt be doing with the hassle of form filling report requesting etc all over again i was just glad he got something so we never bothered whether he would of qualified therefore is moot but i know some people can and do on severe mental impairment grounds

I do agree however that it is very annoying when you see people who are obviously not qualifying with blue badges and whatever especially when you are genuine as it gives all of us a bad name we all then get tarred with the same brush and stereotyped because of the people who ARE frauding the system

Bl00dy hell, I felt awkward and uncomfortable reading the first few replies. Unnecessary, the woman was obviously upset in her first post and subsequent posts.

Why not just say - this board is for info, I'll ask for the thread to be moved.

Not everyone spends all day on the boards and they certainly can't read every 'sticky' going..

How do you know they don't have a disability? People with uncontrolable epliepsy can get a blue badge and they do look fine.

Yes I know sometimes a disability can be hidden in that it is not obvious just by looking so of course it cannot be said with any certainty a person is faking or not just by looking at them I concede your point but there ARE unfortunately fakers out there who give everyone a bad name and as a result people are getting suspicious and judgemental I am not saying this is right but i guess it is inevitable In my post above I was not being judgemental as such I was making the point that the fakers (a minority) are making things difficult for the genuine x

As if using intelligent judgement is a bad thing!

DLA is not a means tested benefit. You can get it AND work. It relates to the extra costs a person can have due to having a disability.

So many people claiming DLA are also working.

So why is the discussion assuming none of them are? Is it too hard to believe not everyone who claims benefits is a scrounger???

Well I suppose that would depend on the standard of 'intelligence' concerned then wouldn't it?
