ESA vent...

melbury - I had my ESA claim back dated to DAY 1. Not at the end of the 13 weeks but from day 1 of my claim.
I'd been off sick for 28 weeks, so as my SSP had ended I had to claim ESA.
I not sure how much you know but the company who run the medicals don't always use a doctor, sometimes they use other medical professionals.
You can see the list of "questions" on the OPI website. If you gain 15 points or more you "pass". It is worth knowing what they are supposed to do as it seems most people who've vented anger re medical do so on the grounds of it not being completed properly!
Good luck0 -
the one who done my husbands had doctor on his badge.. dont know if he was a medical doctor though!!0

My son recently had an ESA medical, and has now been informed that he is no longer entitled to ESA.
He cannot put any weight on his right leg, due to knee damage of long standing, unless he uses crutches, yet he has been adjudged as having no walking problems.
The current situation was brought about when he was attending New Deal last December. Due to a mistake by a member of the staff who sent him off-site to take a CSCS test, he turned up at the testing centre without a vital piece of paperwork, and was turned away. On the walk back he slipped on a patch of mud and twisted the knee, resulting in a flare-up of the condition, hence the crutches.
We have asked them to look again at the decision, adding that he has had two MRI scans, and the Orthopaedic surgeon is awaiting the result of further X-rays on my son's hip before deciding just how much surgery is required. His next appointment is on July 22nd.
If his claim is refused again we will be taking the Appeal route.
He only gained 6 points in the assessment for inability to kneel and rise.
I know thw DWP have been told to crack down, but my son wants to work, to become independent, he's not trying to avoid work.
This is just for information, and to illustrate some of the DWP's more unrealistic decisions.
Cheers, HG0 -
Sorry if I have offended you, I didn't mean to.
It was just the way you asked about benefits related questions, as if you had some special knowledge about benefits - i.e. more than the average person. Obviously I was sadly mistaken.
Thats totally uncalled for,DMG has a wide knowledge re:benefits and like many of us on here we do what we can to help, when asked nicely.
This part of MSE is about benefit problems and possible solutions, there are other areas of mse more suited to vents and scarcasm. But as a member for 6 years you would of course know that !0 -

The person was only asking a question, who the heck do you think you are?
Melbury - Somebody will come along that will answer your questions or give an explanation, unlike this tos*er!
The question was answered in post 2.
The point is that this board is for questions on benefits and not vents/rants or discussion.
There is no need to be so rude and to call people names.0 -

My husband is diabetic, has kidney cancer, mobility problems and is on higher rate dla.. he got nil points!!
never got asked how far he could walk..got 0 points
did not kneel/ bend because he cannot..got 0 points.
and so it went on.. why are the government wasting money paying these liars and then having to pay other people to look at all the thousands of appeals...
If your husband can reach the floor level (does not matter in what way kneeling, squatting or bending in his lower back or with some combined movement) it is quite normal to recieve 0 points, because this is the descriptor purpose as far as I am aware of.
When you say kindey cancer do you mean that your husband has kidney cancer and undergoing chemo/radiotherapy and surgeries or he had kidney cancer and is just followed up?
Regarding diabetes, why should it restrict someone working?
Regarding mobility ... how far can your husband walk with aids and without stopping?0 -
Can anyone tell me what questions are asked at the ESA medical, or provide a link?
