  • To correct you once again - It is certainly NOT synthetic latex. It is natural talalay latex that has a graphite additive. I'm sure LR would be able to explain the reasons for this to you seeing as you are a bit confused.

It's not natural latex is it. It's a blend which makes it synthetic, and gives it different properties, making it unlike natural latex.
  • Holysomke,

Would you please share information about your mattress.
Where did you bug? Which one did you buy? etc

    Hi i bought http://www.factory-beds-direct.co.uk/mattress-sho/king-size-mattresses/eternity-pocket-latex-1500-kingsize/

    Still very happy with it!
    Thanks Karen
  • Hi,

My wife and I aren't that keen on memory foam (either for the whole mattress or on top of pocket-springs) and would rather get a pocket-sprung-only bed. We've seen a Highgate / Healthopaedic one with 3000 springs which we tried in a store and seemed much better suited to us than the others we've tried (only for 5 or 10 minutes, but we figured better than not at all). There's one on the Sueno website that's called the "Pocket 3000 mattress" or "Highhate / Healthopaedic : Pocket 3000 5'0" Kingsize Mattress" on ebedz.

My question was whether 3000 springs was bordering on being a gimmick? I've read advice on here about 1,000 to 1,800 springs being a decent range and so wondered if I was paying for the number, without getting any meaningful benefit? £390 didn't seem too bad a price compared with a number of others, but I was also conscious that it's a non-turn mattress (I'd prefer a turnable one if it means a few more years out of it). Should I expect turnabilty for £400?

For that matter, for the cash (£400 pound mark) can anyone recommend any other pocket-spring only, medium-firm mattress, please?

    Thanks
    R

Yes 3000 springs is a gimmick. The springs may even be two layers of small 1500 pocket spring units.

You would get no extra benefit from the high spring count, and it could mean that the springs are very small and weak.

With pocket springs a turnable mattress is very important, if you want it to last.
  • Hi, found a bed that seems to cover the bases you suggest to look for... its a Romantica Madrid

11'' deep comprising of a medium to firm 6'' deep 1000 pocket sprung layer (in a 5' king size mattress).

This is then topped with a total of 4'' (2'' either side) of high density visco elastic memory foam for ultimate support (the other inch is made up from other materials that protect the memory foam from the springs). This is then covered in a luxuy fabric.

However it doesn't mention the density of the foam, I recall you stating it should be a certain weight per cubic metre?

Does it sound decent for £439

there is also another, 1500 springs rather than 1000 and it comes in at £499, gut instinct pushes me todards the 1500 springs for the extra £60 :)

The Madrid has 60kg per m3 memory foam.
  • thanks, so.. 1500 springs for £60 more would be a good idea??

and would the specs and price make for a decent buy??

That all depends on how firm you like your mattress.

The number of springs isn't as much of an issue as they make out in some shops, as long as it's between 1000 and 1800.
  • many thanks, just got to work out now if I have space for a Super Kingsize... and wether I can make to with 2 drawers or need 4 - decisions decisions!!
