Rehoming my Dorset old tyme bulldog

No either dog was not in season or close to a season. Noting several comments have been about using a behaviourist, i just dont have the time, and this is my partners dog which he was left with and has been considering re-homing her for a while, as he also just hasn't the time for her. This scrap between the two dogs has just made it clear he needed to do it soon rather than later as in the long run its Nahla who looses out, she needs a loving home and more time from her owners, and we just cant give her that.
From the other dog's injuries, I'd call it more than a "scrap." How much was the Vet's bill?0 -

Just came home from a week end away and read these posts. Firstly i would like to start with Birduk's post...... to the comment of ''Sounds to me that you resented the dog because she reminds you of your boyf ex partner'' I suggest you keep comments like this to yourself, you dont know me. you know anything about me, my partner or his ex's situation and such a personal (incorrect) opinion does not go down lightly. As far as my dog goes i can assure you she wants for nothing and gets the best care possible!!!! When i had her my lifestyle was very different, had plenty of time for her but to some very unfortuant circumstances things are very different for me. I now dont spend as much time with her as id like but im lucky enough to have people around to take care of her when i cant. She is a very happy dog, loopy but very happy!!! Regarding her being speyed, that was something i was waiting to look into when she had her 1st proper season. So do not tell me i have no clue about my dog! i spent a long time choosing a dog that would suit me at the time, i brought books and did loads of research. she has all her injections, shes been chipped, registered and has check ups with my friend who is a vet! I simply asked the question about her being speyed as i wasnt aware of the age........ Does not make me a bad dog owner, we all ask questions.
Nahla!!!! Once again she is not my dog, i dont look after her, my partner deals with the other two dogs, i just give them fuss when im around. However if i didnt care about where she went then i wouldnt of posted a message on here to gain some advice. i have said over and over again that i dont want her going just to any one. i have turned 2 people down as i didnt like what i heard and ive been trying very hard to find a rescue. i have 4 emails stating that they couldnt help from several places. others just haven't gotten back to me. But she remains with us until we find a suitable, 5* home or rescue. I have discussed her being speyed as this will give us some degree of assurance that she wont be wanted for the wrong reasons. I have spoken to my friend (vet) who doesnt feel she needs a vet check, she also believes that its due to the fact that we have moved into the house. However when the time comes to getting her speyed it wont hurt to get a second opinion.
i posted a message on this forum to get some advice not to be acused of being a bad dog owner or to be made to feel as if i havent been trying my hardest. I have my best intentions for all 3 dogs but unfortuantly that means rehoming one of them. Re-homing Nahla was concidered by my partner before we even were together due to him not having time for her, it was his ex's dog, she looked after her, they split, he works. what more could he possibly do???? unfortuantly he didn't find anywhere. Now that this has happened ive steped in to help. This is what he wants!
What would be better, her staying with us, not having time for her to make things better, her having to live away from the other dogs in a shed all because her owner left her!!! or find a suitable loving home where there is time for her??? We are not bad people, we care thats why were trying to find other arrangements!
I would like to thank those that have helped and took the time to read and post messages back with advice. Advice is what i wanted not a debate on if i should or shouldnt be re-homing Nahla. I dont appreciate the unnecessary opinions about me, my partner or our capability of being dog owners.

Why not register with dog pages and put a post on the 'private rehomings' page?

I disagree with your vet friend to be honest, I can see no disadvantaged to a vet check and think it would be wise to get her checked over, especially before sending her off to a new home - for her sake, and for your peace of mind, as well as for the sake of any new owner taking her on. As you note, if you are going to get her speyed they will check her over anyway - mention the incedent just in case there is any medical issue which becomes apparent which could have been a contributing factor.
ETA - is there any chance of the partners ex taking her on if she knows she has to go?0 -
I will do thankyou FC0

lyssa, not one single person knows everything about all dogs, so don't be disheartened.
I thought myself to be pretty experienced with behavioural issues, not ever having known any bad in three dogs from pups, until I got my 6yr old rescue. It's been a hard six months and we are not right yet.
I don't know whether you should or shouldn't have your dog examined by a Vet. I do know though, that the only Professor of Dog behaviour in the UK, at Lincoln University will not see a dog unless previously examined by a Vet for all that FC suggests. ie to discount any underlying health issues.
Did you see the tel no I put up? It is a rescue for Dorsets. Just tried it and the number rings. Go for it!

Mutter, I believe FC was saying that she should be vet checked to discount any underlying heath issues - as have many of us.
Lyssa was your "friend" the vet who tended to Lewis' wounds or did you see another vet?"Men are generally more careful of the breed(ing) of their horses and dogs than of their children" - William Penn 1644-1718
