Rehoming my Dorset old tyme bulldog

My partner owns a dorset old tyme bulldog that needs rehoming. she is nearly 5 years old now and unfortuantly we can not keep her due to an ordeal we had several weeks ago. Nahla the bull dog has been brought up with lewis an 11 year old staffy, who till this day got on with each other with no concerns. however a couple of weeks ago nahla decided to have hold of lewis and continued to fight for at least half an hour and the end result was that lewis was very badly hurt and had some very nasty cuts. i tried to do everything in my power to break up the fight but unfortuantly was very unsucessful, and i gave up after nahla attempted to bite me. Family members were called and were still unable to stop them fighting. luckly nahla got very tierd and gave up, i quickly shut her outside and tried to stop the bleeding from lewis. Since this episode nahla and lewis have to be kept separated, we have attempted to put them back together but nahla continues to want to fight with lewis. The only way we have been able to separate the two dogs if for nahla to stay outside and we have made a bed for her in the empty shed. I am aware that this is not ideal for nahla but i have no other idea's of what to do. She has been placed on two websites for sale of £200, however we dont want any money for her we just thought if we placed her up for that amount some one would have to be serious about having her to offer money, this in the hope she would got to a better home that she deserves than if we put her up for free to a good home. This is very out of character for nahla and im assuming its happened as i have moved in with my 1 year old labrador. Nahla is a very lazy, timid dog who is scared of her own shadow which is why we just cant believe it happened. We would very much apprieciate any help rehoming her, or if anyone has any futher ideas of who to contact that would be great.

Thanks

I'm really sorry to hear about what has happened with your dogs. It must be devestating for you to be in this position. I can only offer my sympathy and also strongly advise as the post above mentions, for you to contact the breed rescue centre. They will so their utmost to help re-home nahla with someone who will want her and take good care of her. I hope things work out for you.

Hi thank you both for you help,

I have tried bulldog rescue, but as Dorset old tyme bulldogs are not a pure breed they dont rehome them. I have emailed a few other places so my fingers are crossed. I can assure you i dont want nahla going to the wrong hands, i feel partly to blame for the dogs fighting due to moving here with my dog. However i cant get rid of Bella as it wouldnt solve the other two fighting and lewis is old and my partners had him since a pup, and besides them two get on really well. We just dont seem to be getting anywhere with re-homing her at the moment. :0(

Where abouts do you live? As they breed centre can't help I'm just wondering if there is a Dogs Trust centre or similar nearby? At least any potential owner will be vetted beforehand so you will know that you've left her in good hands.

so... are there three dogs in total? Lewis, Nahla and Bella - where does Bella come in - is that your dog? edit - I re read the original post - Bella is your labrador? Sorry was getting confused!

Are they all speyed/neutered (just wondering if hormones could have caused the scrap)?

Are you sure that neither Lewis nor Nahla is ill, which could explain out of character behaviour?

If you are rehoming this girl, I really hope she is speyed, as she could well end up in the hands of someone unscrupulous trying to breed her to make a fast buck - sadly, this sort of dog almost always need C-sections, so if they were ignorant of this, or unprepared to stump up the £1000 or so that may cost, it may well be fatal for this girl (sorry, do not want to upset you, but because of her breed and the high price of bulldog pups it is even more vital this girl does not leave your care unspeyed for her own safety and wellbeing)

Is the fighting the only reason you want rid of Nahla? If so you might be better finding a behaviourist who can help you to work out how and why the dynamics have changed thus enabling you to live in harmony again. If you want rid of the dog for other reasons then the other posters have provided links to rescues.

Have you been honest about her behaviour when you have been trying to rehome her? If she is going to be a liability around other dogs you could/should state that it needs to be a lone dog household if you haven't already done this.
If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!

So what is a "Dorset old tyme bulldog"? What breeds are crossed to produce this mix?

I couldnt agree more, someone may get your dog and then use it for dog-fights, or for training their dogs to fight.
