I am not sure on the offer but I would recommend the resort, we went in May. It is really lovely. You could stay at the resort and still be happy IMO. The lake and beach are nice.

We had a few hours drive from Calais. I would say that the resort was further away from Paris than I thought it would be.

There is a coach into Paris for 20 Euros once a week, Tuesdays I think. I would have paid that to avoid the hassle. We were only there for a long weekend. We drove part of the way and then got the Metro. This was on the recommendation of the rep. I cannot remember the name of the place but I have it written down somewhere. I can dig it out if you want more info.

thank you so much for all info think if we did go we would drive, i will definitely look into this when it starts. again thank you :D

you would need to hire a car or could possibly use trains and a taxi, but much easier to drive!
La Croix is lovely and we have been 3 times with the SUN,saving lots of £££s in the process!

Not received my priority code yet

The "extra" costs are not hidden, god it's frustrating when people don't read / do their homework!

The prices for service charge / entertainments passes etc are clearly stated on the website and in the brochure!
you can of course not bother with the passes or the linen,to bring the cost down

also always see how much it will be to book direct ( esp in term time) as that's another whinge on here, people who find out AFTER booking, they could have gotten it cheaper by booking direct
and check out reviews on www.tripadvisor.com too !

    rant over :D

thanks for the info i will look into it more when it starts to see what it is to book direct and make sure i know all extra charges.i did look for info first b ut wanted to hear from someone who has actually been there and with the sun. thanks again :D

My brother has just come back from a Sun holiday to Pontins (Brean) and hated every moment of it, decor was 70's/80's everything was insanely expensive, and full off chav type couples that let their kids do whatever they wanted while they drank in the bar, there was also nothing for their youngest to do more geared towards kids of 6 and over. They also paid £45 (I think) for an entertainment pass that seemed to have no meaning, was never asked for and he said aside from some kids shows in the day entertainment was non-existent.

One thing though he did say Brean was really nice itself just would never go to Pontins ever again. I'm not saying all this to rubbish the post or Sun holidays just be warned, oh one other thing, they had a letter a week before they went stating they needed to pay an extra £80! They also didn't receive any paper work about check-in times etc, so when they arrived at 12:30pm and were told check-in wasn't until 4pm!!!! You can understand their frustrations at Sun holidays and Pontins! You also have to pay for bedding too, all extra hidden costs people should be made aware of.

Anyway, that's my morning rant over, where's me coffee!!

Hi, the costs are not hidden, you just have to read the terms and conditions.

With regards to 'chav type' families, afraid you get annoying families wherever you go and how much you spend, as long as you enjoy your own holiday, you will never see these people again anyway.

I do agree about Pontins though, very very poor in comparison with Haven and Parkdean. We usually go to Haven Weymouth Bay for a week in Easter and have never had a problem, beautiful area, and immaculate caravan every time.

Well the costs where hidden to them anyway as they didn't have one single piece of paper from Sun Holidays/Pontins they only had a confirmation letter that was it, no terms and conditions no explanation of extra charges etc, they why they were shocked when a week before they went they got a letter saying they still owed £80!! And no mention of check-in times either, overall a poor experience for them as the first time they have been able to get away with the kids, such a shame! They will never do one ever again even if it was ALL free.

They are in the process of filing a complaint against them.

hi again, i am thinking of doing the offer this year and maybe going toLa Croix de Vieux Pont france, i did some searching and read its lovely there. i also read on sun's website that they do a deal for £25 pp which includes ferry crossing. my question is- do you take your car or is that just ferry crossing then you get train or something down to paris? sounds very cheap for a few days abroad. i'd be greatful for any info from anyone who's been.

We wanted the Croix de Vieux Pont but got Le Chene Gris. We went on the late May bank holiday. The park was clean and tidy and the pool area was good, although smaller than it looked int he brochure. The onsite shop was very expensive, but there are supermarkets in the surrounding area. It's a basic camp, but great as a base.
There is a direct train service into Paris right outside the campsite, it takes 4 mins and drops you at Gare de L'est and costs about $15 with a full day travelcard. Bargain!
It's also only just over an hour to Fontainbleu and the very very lovely Chateau de Pierrefonds which is used as Camelot castle in the BBC series Merlin.

  • Hi, I went to La Croix at easter, went by plane to Charles de Galle using airmiles from tesco clubcard (£75 without); from there train to centre of de Nord cost ~8euros, bus available also for about 2euros. Trains to Soissons or Compiegne on regular basis cost 30 euros for weekend through raileurope.com. There are bus services from these stations to St Aisigne (2euros) that meet the trains so it is possible to travel without car. the buses are infrequent however, a timetable is available for anyone who wants it, there are buses every two hours or so,mainly morning/evening, but I managed okay. the walk is approx 20mins from stop to campsite. Taxis from either Soissons/Compeigne were 60 euros so out of my range. The area is very near the battlefields of WW1 with the frontline ~3km away if you fancy a trek up there, there is a castle in St Aisigne and a number of bakerys, cafe bars which looks very Allo Allo. UP the road is Berny Rivere which bears the shrapnel marks on the old walls from German tank fire. YOu can see deer and various other wild life as you walk along near the river and woods if you are quiet enough. There is a go ape style site towards Soissons which is cheaper than the british version for any thrill seekers. I had my own duck family visiting me when I was there. Any help required just ask.

The prices for each park are clearly stated on the list of parks BEFORE you book, ie. entertainments passes, service charges etc - and linen is optional - pay or take your own. Its there, on the form when you choose your park - and also on the website if you book online.

With whom? Don't think they will get very far; all the information is there before you book, and also on the confirmation letter!

If you want to complain about the standard of accomodation, then that should be done whilst on resort, to give the park the chance to move you.

I personally wouldn't chose Pontins, but the caravan holidays I've had in the past have been well worth the money paid.
    I'm a bit of a nutter :j
