Perhaps you should have thought of all financial considerations before dropping your pants.

You are now expecting working tax payers to pay for your child and your rent.

I'm so glad Mr O is cracking down on HB payments. There's loads of things I'd like to have, but I can't have them because I don't have the funding for them so I go without as so do many other people.

Yeah, fancy a young couple not going through a typical family budget before having a bit of nookie.

Jesus...I bet you were a barrel of laughs on your first shag.

    Yeah, I was :rotfl:

Neither was a child created, I waited until I had a house and funds to provide for the childs needs. :T

There you go again, spouting the same rubbish as to why every tom, !!!!!! and harry is entitled to every benefit going and woe betide anyone who suggests self sufficiency.

While he is in college, he is not earning, his girlfriend is not earning, there is a child on the way and they have no means to provide a roof over the childs head themselves. If they cannot provide the most basic need this child will require, then what else can they not afford to give the child?

Or will this be down to the tax payer to pay for the child's needs too?
I'm fed up of people looking for free money while expecting working people to pay for their needs.

But by going to college, he would (generally) get a job after and be paying his way?

A child doesn't need much more than food and shelter, and the love of it's family. And a shelter doesn't need to be a big house with more bedrooms than people. You'll be surprised how many people will make do with less, in the knowledge that love it more important to a child than a wealthy parent.

If the OP and his GF found themselves in the situation a bit earlier than they would otherwise have liked, then so be it. It happens. Fortunately we live in a civilised society that will not see his family on the streets one way or another.

Erm, obviously you can't expect people to go through a family budget every time they have a shag, but you CAN expect them to consider the financial consequences of their actions :)

Only by inventing a means of time travel could your comments be of any use to the OP. I'm guessing you haven't.

Thanks to everybody who actually tried to help, i didnt come here asking for opinions, i dont care what people think, i came here for help and advice NOT opinions of people who clearly think we live in a perfect world where people dont have unplanned pregnancies, a lot of dads-to-be my age wouldnt stick around but i am going to no matter what you narrow minded people think, we had sex.. she was using contreception, but that doesnt mean 100% guarentee that you cant get pregnant, we didnt think up of a brilliant plan to have a baby and sponge off the tax payer, but thats just how things work out unfortunately and we have to make the most of what weve got, which is not much at the minute, i really do wish i was as lucky as you people who have clearly never a mistake in your lives and in the long term il be looking for a career as a joiner where il be paying a LOT of tax but at this moment in time im not able to walk in the perfect job as the recession means that not a lot of people in the construction industry are taking on 17 year olds fresh out of college with no real work expierience but as soon as i have the chance i will be working hard to provide for my family, the housing benefit thing is only a short term thing while me and my girlfriend get used to the situation were in.

And, more importantly, the personal consequences of their actions.

I dont NEED an apprenticeship to get a job, it just helps, i am still a qualified joiner but im unable to get a job because of the recession, not many people are buying houses, therefor there isnt a great demand for joiners/kitchen fitters, which is what my dad does for a living, everybody i know in the construction industry is struggling at the minute its not just me, and a lot of people are forced to claim JSA because they lost thier job as a professional builder, are you going to tell them that they should stop being JSA Dossers and to get a job?
Some people have genuine cases where they NEED help, It wouldnt make a difference if were 17 or 47, my girlfriend would have to claim benefits as she cant work due to being pregnant, we would still need somewhere to live and i would still be looking for a job, but not everybody can walk into a good well paid job and therefor need help from the government.
