If he does advertise it for rent then this may look better from to show it is a valid commercial rental property however the question would be - if it is advertised for rent what monthly rental would he be advertising as? If he is proposing to rent it to you at a lower rate than he would get from other tenants then this would not be looked at favourably

I know where the attraction would be for some people to just buy a house and rent it to a family member purely to pay off the mortgage with no intention of renting it to anyone else, But it was just a coincidence that he was about to start renting his house out at the same time his daughter got pregnant and needed a place to live.

Also i would have thought it would make it easier for the council to just let us rent it from her dad because it means they dont have to look for a place for us and its not like she only got pregnant so she could claim housing benefits to rent her dads house purely so he can get free money, although i know some people probably do that kind of thing, il have to ring my local council and ask them for advice.

I think that is a wise thing to do. I doubt that they will go for it, but that isn't my decision to make.

What if, he rents it to us for 495 and we make up the 95 per month? either way i wouldnt mind paying money out of my own pocket if it means finding a house i like, its all just a bit stressfull at the minute.

You will only get the LHA rent for a one bredroomed in your area. so it will be a lot more than £95 difference.

But, as your partner is pregnant, you will be able to apply for DHP to make up the difference between the 1 bedroom rate and the 2 room rate until your child is born.

i cant afford to pay 400 pound rent a month im 17 years of age,

Perhaps you should have thought of all financial considerations before dropping your pants.

You are now expecting working tax payers to pay for your child and your rent.

I'm so glad Mr O is cracking down on HB payments. There's loads of things I'd like to have, but I can't have them because I don't have the funding for them so I go without as so do many other people.

    Your arrogance astounds me!

i have just finished my second year in college and my girlfriend has just finished a college course but does not plan on returning to college and i may not be able to return to college unless i get an apprenticeship, well long story short, will we be able to claim housing benefit to live in her dads house?

You have spawned a child with absolutely no intention of supporting this child - all you are looking for is a way for the tax paying majority to subsidise you and the grandfather of your child!!

You posted on an open forum asking for opinions - I gave mine. So don't tell me - who has paid taxes for 40 years AND brought up a family without benefits - not to post on your thread!

There you go again, spouting the same rubbish as to why every tom, !!!!!! and harry is entitled to every benefit going and woe betide anyone who suggests self sufficiency.

While he is in college, he is not earning, his girlfriend is not earning, there is a child on the way and they have no means to provide a roof over the childs head themselves. If they cannot provide the most basic need this child will require, then what else can they not afford to give the child?

Or will this be down to the tax payer to pay for the child's needs too?
I'm fed up of people looking for free money while expecting working people to pay for their needs.
