Just to add... the tough financial times in the past (due to business debt - too long a story to share, but completely a 'no fault' debt... a bit like your house) have lead to a great financial present for me.

I've got two lines of business on a self employed basis and dip my toe into being an employee when these two businesses are quiet. I've finances to keep me secure in quiet times and this has opened up freedom to make choices and take opportunities that just were not avaiable when money wasn't spare.

I've had no period of unemployment - and I'm set up enough now to continue to work in these tough times too. You'll get there too, so keep plodding... and take care yourself!

I know this reads like a big boast, but I'm just wanting to share that good times ARE around the corner - so keep the [MSE] faith!

Why don't you double them & use for the uniforms Hypno?

Happy stripping, don't go too far now :rotfl:

I was looking for some PMA quotes yesterday, found some very good ones, but this was my favourite:

Great news on the vouchers. What an amazing time to find them, serendipity rules OK! Is there a chance of another short term student or have you definitely had enough? You sounded pretty relieved to be getting your study, house and life back!
Is the lower salary due to having less "commission" due to being away on hols for two weeks of the month?

    Ooh, am loving that one!

uniforms.....well we have this wonderful school that insists on logos on everything now, so are stuck with "the school uniform shop". We were lucky last year, in that it was a new rule to have the "proper" uniform, and as DD was in her last year at school we only had to buy logo'd stuff for DS, which saved me a bit last year.

Ho hum, anyway, have asked OH to help out, which he is going to do, so that is good news there.

V - the students we have had this summer have been great, very easy going, etc, but some of the tales from other families have been shocking this year.....broken furniture, shoplifting, etc. I think I will quit while I am ahead as I don't really need the additional stress right now of a nightmare student!

But of course, if the phone rings asking if I have a spare bed.......:rotfl:

It was just a poor month generally for the firm in July, hence the lower incomes. We are lucky in that they adopt a very fair policy for bonus payments and the monthly ones are not determined by what the individual earns the firm, etc, but it does mean that even if you have had a fantastic month, if the rest of the firm hasn't, you will still get a low payout. Conversly, if you have had a poor month personally but everyone else has done really well, you benefit there, so it all works out well.

We are docked bonus if we are sick, but not if we are on annual leave. It discourages those that are prone to Friday migraines or Monday tummy troubles from being out of the office too often ;)

Septembers pay will be better - we have had a bumper month so far in August :T So it is only the next few weeks that are going to be horribly tight, and I am sure I can manage on mince and rice pudding for a while :D

So far in Season Two - you have made it to prison :) and played free bingo with massive success.

Now back to the present - great find on the Tesco vouchers (although I picked up in Season One that they can be sold, so guess where mine are going)!
My sister has to get complete new uniform for their daughter heading to 'big school'. The PE kit is logo'd and from Canterbury! - it cost £120!!!!!!!

Good luck with the stripping! Totally get the spindles and the hard work - mine have at least 20 layers of paint on them!

On spindles, if they're easy to remove, it can be fairly cheap to drop them off to be dip stripped. We did it in one place we lived, and then used a clear varnish finish. Not sure what the price would be now though, it was a few years ago.

I would love to be able to afford to get all the doors in my house 'dipped' - here it is £40 a door! So needless to say. Someone told me to use Nitromorse but have never tried it.
