Morning Hypno - my storecupboards are more and more bare, thankfully - part of decluttering to move :D the one thing I have most of is gluten free flour - so, you're right, a crumble is needed, no way can I do smooth pastry, but crumble - well, even I can manage that :D

Hope those runs to the tip make it clearer for you.

I have got quite a lot of "basics" in my cupboards that I am sure can be used over the next few weeks to make my budget go that bit further. It really does make a difference when you focus on what you have already got!

I'm no good at pastry either, but crumble topping.....well, that's a different matter!

  • Can't do pastry, resembles leather, and as for puff....life too short. Plus is usually on an offer somewhere and making the stuff creates so much mess that the effort, substances and water required cleaning my mess up can't be good for environment. Do I sound like I'm trying to justify it ?

No need to justify at all DC - I too am of the opinion that jus-roll make much better pastry than I do!

For crumble, just substitute the "normal" flour for an equal quantity of gluten free stuff - everything else will be exactly the same as there is nothing except the fruit and any spices such as nutmeg if you are doing apple crumble, butter/marg and sugar :D

Just google "crumble recipes" and you will get loads of ideas - just swap the flour for gluten free flour (or soy flour if that is allowed).

    Happy baking!

hi hypno. one of my biggest hurdles to decluttering is that a lot of the clutter, is computer parts my OH has accumulated. I am so just going to collect it up one day and offer it on freecycle! But then knowing my luck, I will throw away a gizmo that is worth $100's and will get moaned at!

Still i have managed to prize some children's videos off the boys, don't know if they will sell, but will give them a try....
    cheers

OMG  I totally feel your pain re computer parts - my house is coming down with 'bits' that I have no idea of their value. We have at least 6 computers in various states of deconstruction and, I swear, 40 mother boards! On top of that there are more than 8 boxes 'hidden' under eves AND a room that is just horrendous with more bits in there.

    Videos - at least 100!

Over the last 4 years I have tried to 'encourage' him to sort them out - happens rarely!

HYpno - I too 'bought into' the grocery challenge. I am aiming for £100 for month of August but my cupboards are bare as last month I did a good job of using up as much as I could. As a result we have no pasta, rice and other such basics but do have a sack of spuds (how stereo-typical!).

I have held off with my monthly shop as yet but its getting tough, so if I manage to do that for £70 (have to get washing powder too) I will be a happy camper1
